Today my sister called with the extremely sad and unexpected news that a beloved older brother of ours passed away this morning. By God's grace, my wife was by my side, and, throughout the day, as I've been processing this loss, one of the many things that has struck me is how blessed I am to have her in my life. How much of a blessing it was that she married me seven years ago. As I mused on that, this song came to mind, so I'm sending her the link. (By the way, for what it's worth, for me, Gladys (& The Pips) are in a category of performers/groups whose talent I appreciated and whose songs I enjoyed when they came on the radio or TV back in the day, but who were not necessarily in my "top tier" of favorites, perhaps because I lacked the maturity and sophistication to truly appreciate them. (Others in that category would include many of the Motown greats as well as others such as Glen Campbell, James Taylor, John Denver, the BeeGees, etc.) In recent years, however, thanks to YouTube, I've been revisiting many of these artists' music and I feel like now I'm able to "hear" them in a way I somehow couldn't before. It's hard to put in words just how gifted and special they were. With Gladys, for example, there is a genuineness and passion in her voice that is truly exceptional. I wish I could say it better!)

I just played this for my 10 and 14 yr old boys on our way to school this morning and they both listened intently as I sang my heart out to them.
