Make Me The Woman That You Go Home To
Gladys Knight & The Pips Lyrics
You promised me
Things that meant a lot
Said so much you
Just up and forgot
What you said
To me, about me
You said I was your strength
The air you breathe
So help me, honey
Make my life complete
Oh, yes, you did
So then
(Why, why don't you)
Why don't you, baby
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
Make me the woman
You go home to
And not the one
You leave behind
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
Not the one you left to cry
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
With a smile
I fix your evening meals
Iron your clothes
It ain't no big deal
It's all a part of loving you
(Loving you, yes, it is)
Stand by your side
Through thick and thin
Not laying awake to
Ask where you been
Cause you'd tell me
If you wanted to
(If you wanted to)
Oh, yeah
(Why, why don't you)
Why don't you, baby
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
Make me the woman
You go home to
And not the one
You leave behind
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
Not that one that's
Left to cry and cry
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
(Make her the woman
You go home to) you
Make me the woman
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
You go home to
Make me yours and
You'll be mine to keep
So full of joy, you wouldn't
Need to be on the
Other side of town
Fooling around
So (why, why don't you)
Why, why, why
Good God almighty, boy
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
And not that one
That you leave behind
(Make her the woman
You go home to)
Not the one that's
Left to cry and cry
(Make her the woman
You go home to)...
I don't, I don't
I don't know what you want
Make me your woman, oh, baby...

Gladys Knight, born on May 28, 1944, developed her singing style while singing with her family at Baptist church functions. Though the group first released recordings in 1958, their career really got started when Motown founder Berry Gordy witnessed them perform at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in 1966 and felt very impressed. With a career following spanning decade after decade, featuring many hits, the group has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

This song, I 1st heard as a child. I never forgot it and ran thru my memory as an adult, only remembering a couple lines. When I found it again, I cried. Gladys is a Legend for all her beautiful songs!!! I listen all the time now!!! ❤👑❤👑❤

The greatest female vocal act to ever cross the threshold of Hitsville U.S.A.

I agree. Berry Gordy was so engulfed with an infatuation for Diana Ross that he lost out when Gladys Knight and the Pips said enough is enough and left to find their place with Budda and Capitol Records.

@Midwest Slot Diva I would have to say MARTHA REEVES was better than Tammi, Teena and Florence. But I also agree that GLADYS was the best female vocalist they ever had. DIANA ROSS was also quite unique and gifted, she's never gotten the credit for her amazing vocals that she deserves. Diana is underrated because she didn't have a Churchy voice. It's hilarious that Motown rejected Aretha Franklin and later regretted it.

Her, Tammi Terrell and Teena Marie. And given half a chance that the scarecrow Ross had.... Florence Ballard. She could blow
