Have the faith I have in you
Love will see us through
If only you trust in me
Why don't you, you trust me
Come to me when things go wrong
Cling to me Daddy, oh yeah, and I'll be strong
Oh, if only you trust in me
While there's a moon, a moon on high
While there are birds, birds to fly
While there is you, you and I
I can be sure that I love you
Oh, stand beside me, stand beside me all the while
Come on Daddy, face the future, why don't you smile
Trust in me and I'll be worthy of you
Oh yeah, yeah, why don't you, you trust in me, in all you do
And have the faith I, I have in you
Oh, and love will see us through
If only you trust in me
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Why don't you, you come to me, when things go wrong
Cling to me and, whoa, and I'll be strong
We can get along, we can get along
Oh, if only you trust in me
Yeah, yeah
The lyrics of "Trust in You" by Gladys Knight & The Pips speak to the importance of trust and faith in a relationship. The song emphasizes the need for trust and belief in each other, as well as the power of love to overcome any challenges that may arise.
The song opens with the plea to trust in each other, urging the listener to have the same faith in their partner as the singer does. It highlights that love can be a source of strength and security, if only there is trust in the relationship. The repeated refrain "why don't you, you trust me" emphasizes the plea for trust and highlights the frustration or longing for the partner to fully trust in the singer.
The second verse reinforces the support and strength the singer can offer when things go wrong, urging the partner to cling to the singer and rely on their strength. The line "We can get along, we can get along" suggests that trust and reliance on each other can help them navigate any difficulties they may face. The chorus returns to the plea for trust, and the following lines express certainty in the love between the two individuals.
The bridge of the song encourages the partner to stand beside the singer and face the future together, suggesting that trust will lead to a brighter outlook. The final lines reiterate the need for trust, emphasizing that if the partner trusts in the singer, the singer will be worthy of their love.
