Counting Sheep
Glass Cloud Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well don't cry your eyes out
On the ballroom floor
We're all murderers
In a martyr's world
So don't cry your eyes out
We're only lonely
When we're half awake
And it's only a matter of time
This pillow talk illusion
It feels so real

Just get me out of here
All you talk about is counting sheep
Anything to fall asleep
No light behind the window
Time just builds
Slowly kills

We don't give a fuck who you are
This time of night
Miserable empty arms
They tend to put up a fight
So when you open your mouth
You better bite your tongue

And God knows
You're not the only one

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Glass Cloud's song Counting Sheep present a dark and introspective narrative, tackling themes of loneliness, sleeplessness, and the suffocating illusions of pillow talk. The opening lines of the song suggest an atmosphere of violent chaos, with the singer imploring a weeping individual not to lose their composure amidst the metaphorical ballroom of life. The line "We're all murderers in a martyr's world" speaks to the idea that society often demands sacrifices and conformity from individuals, prompting them to betray their own desires and morals in order to fit in. The chorus offers a bleak perspective on insomnia as a state of being that amplifies our feelings of isolation and desperation. As the song continues, the lyrics dive deeper into the singer's psyche, revealing their yearning for escape from the endless chatter that surrounds them, and the pressure to conform to others' expectations.

Overall, Counting Sheep is a powerful song that captures the struggles of navigating relationships, societal norms, and the simple act of trying to fall asleep. It speaks to the idea that sometimes we have to bite our tongues and put on a façade in order to get through the night, without expressing our true feelings of doubt and confusion.

NoirthDark

Yeah, I read the band interview in Outburn Magazine, and according to Jerry (the vocalist), he pretty much wrote everything for this album. Also, in the interview with The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (from the same magazine), the vocalist Jessie says that Josh wrote "75 percent" of Danza III: A Series Of Unfortunate Events. It just comes to show how great of a songwriter/musician he is... :)

These guys need to have production like OM&M, and those dudes really need to smarten the fuck up with what they're putting out, because their musical evolution is totally stagnant.
