Where Did Our Love Go
Glass Tiger Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Facing another long lonely day
A feeling longing for you
In my heart
Darkness becomes so real
Nothing can change
The way that I feel
Love goes only to those
Who believe
But where did our love go?
Close as a heartbeat
But you'll never know
Where did our love go wrong?
Silence I see your face
Shadows have come
And taken your place
I feel your hurting
Like me in your heart
Love goes only to those
Who believe
But where did our love go?
Close as a heartbeat
But you'll never know
Where did our love go?
Holding you closer
Then letting it go
The first verse of the song "Where Did Our Love Go" by Glass Tiger begins with an expression of extreme loneliness and yearning for a loved one. The singer is calling out the name of the person they miss, facing "another long lonely day." The feeling of longing in the heart is so strong that the darkness around them feels very real, and no change in the external world can make any difference to this state of mind. The singer reflects on the fact that love goes only to those who believe, hinting at a loss of faith.
The chorus of the song repeats the question, "Where did our love go?" to emphasize and underline the apparent disappearance of love. The metaphor of being "close as a heartbeat" but never truly knowing the other person indicates the pain of a relationship that has grown distant and cold. The question itself is a lament for a love that has gone wrong, and the singer doesn't understand why this has happened. They wonder where things went wrong and why they are holding onto something that is slipping away.
The second verse continues to describe the sense of loss, with the singer seeing the loved one's face in their mind, but shadows replacing the real thing. The mention of the other person's hurt hints that it might be a mutual feeling, and there is a shared sense of heartbreak. The second chorus repeats the same lines as before, emphasizing the confusion and sorrow of a relationship that has lost its spark. The final line of the song, "Holding you closer than letting it go," refers to being in the moment of the relationship, cherishing it despite knowing it's fleeting.
