Trailer Park Jesus
Glassjaw Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Put the needle to the record
And hit me with your style.
Soon enough I'll
Learn to walk down that mile

Can you see its getting blacker
The vibe up in this place
When i displace what made me turn my face

I can't wait [Repeat: x2]

I jumped ship into a burning cell
Atom bomb.

It was quiet until you happened
When the last thing I do has a swan sloon
Down martyr avenue.
And my driftwood armazana

I'm knee deep in disease
I'm a body
Laid out on my sleeve

I'm a bitch, girl
I'm a bitch.

I jumped ship into a burning cell
Atom bomb.

Denial is a river in Egypt
A vision is a reunion in itself.
Soon enough I... will learn to...

Denial is a river in Egypt
Elusive as a commune in my mouth
Soon enough I... will learn to...

Tell them it.
About the man who found love

It's so deep,
He lost sight of his word.

Overall Meaning

The futuristic alternative rock band, Glassjaw, released their song Trailer Park Jesus in 2000. This song is a dark and intense journey through the struggles of addiction, disassociation, and mental illness. The lyrics “Put the needle to the record and hit me with your style” immediately set the tone for this track. The singer is in desperate need of an escape from his reality and is dependent on the rush of his drug of choice. He hopes to learn to walk down the mile, which probably means that he is trying to overcome addiction, but he’s not ready yet.

The line “when I displace what made me turn my face” suggests that the singer is trying to break free from something that has been haunting him for a long time, most likely his addiction. The verse “I’m knee-deep in disease, I’m a body laid out on my sleeve, I’m a bitch, girl, I’m a bitch” highlights the singer’s vulnerability, as he is in despair and is struggling to hold it together. The chorus repeats the line “I jumped ship into a burning cell atom bomb” which seems to signify that the singer is willingly entering a painful situation or perhaps a drug high that self-destructs them.
