Bills Bills Bills
Glee Cast Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

At first we started out real cool,
Taking me places I ain't never been
But now your getting comfortable
Ain't doing those things you did no more
Your slowly makin' me pay for things
Your money should be handling

And now you ask to use my car (car)
Drive it all day and don't fill up the tank
And you have the audacity
To even come and step to me
Ask to hold some money from me
Until you get your check next week

You triflin',
Good for nothing type of brother
Silly me,
Why haven't I found another
A baller,
When times get hard I need someone to help me out
Instead of a
Scrub like you who don't know what a man's about

Can you pay my bills
Can you pay my telephone bills
Can you pay my automo'bills
If you did then maybe we could chill
I don't think you do
So you and me are through

Now you've been maxing out my card (card)
Give me bad credit, buy me gifts with my own ends
Haven't paid the first bill
But instead you heading to the mall
Going on shopping sprees
Perpetrating tellin' your friends that you be ballin'

And then you use my cell phone (phone)
Callin' who ever that you thinks at home
And then when the bill comes all of a sudden you be acting dumb
Don't know where none of these calls come from
When your mamma's numbers here more than once

You triflin',
Good for nothing type of brother
Silly me,
Why haven't I found another
A baller,
When times get hard I need someone to help me out
Instead of a
Scrub like you who don't know what a man's about

Can you pay my bills
Can you pay my telephone bills
Can you pay my automo'bills
If you did then maybe we could chill
I don't think you do (no)
So you and me are through

You triflin',
Good for nothing type of brother
Silly me,
Why haven't I found another
You triflin',
Good for nothing type of brother
Oh silly me,
Why haven't I found another

Can you pay my bills
Can you pay my telephone bills
Can you pay my automo'bills
(Pay my telephone, telephone bills)
If you did then maybe we could chill
I don't think you do
So you and me are through

Can you pay my bills (ooh)
Can you pay my telephone bills
Can you pay my automo'bills
(Can you pay my bills)
If you did then maybe we could chill

(uh) I don't think you do (no no)
So you and me are through

Overall Meaning

The song "Bills Bills Bills" by the Glee cast talks about a relationship gone wrong because of financial issues. The song starts off with the singer describing how the relationship began on a positive note, with the partner taking them to new places and doing things they have never done before. However, the partner has become too comfortable in the relationship and is not putting in the same effort as before. He is making the singer pay for things that he should have been taking care of with his money. He is even borrowing money from the singer and not paying it back until his next paycheck arrives.

The singer is clearly fed up with this kind of treatment and is looking for a partner who can help her out when times are hard, instead of being a scrub who doesn't know what a man is about. The partner is maxing out the singer's credit card and buying her gifts with her own money, not paying bills, and going on shopping sprees, pretending to be a baller in front of his friends. The singer is furious that he uses her phone to call people that he thinks are at home and then pretends ignorance of the subsequent phone bills.

The song's lyrics are about a woman's frustration at having a lazy and unhelpful boyfriend who has become a financial burden. She is ultimately left with no choice but to break up with him because he isn't good for anything, and she needs someone who can pay her bills. This song is an excellent representation of the struggles that many couples face in their relationships, where one partner becomes a financial burden on the other.

I can never understand how they have such kick ass dance moves when they randomly break out into song, but on stage (during season 2) they just do the warbler side step.

Blake Danielle

EXACTLY!!!

irondragonmaiden

Murphy et al have to nerf them to make it PLAUSIBLE for New Directions to have beaten them without rigging the match.

David Ali

This is just way I see it performing wise, they wanted to be in sync and it's not like everyone could dance the same way so they go with the classy side steps atleast when sebastian and the other dude can't remember his name they kind of updated the dancing

Maggie O

Right?! Lol

Ruby Kanyankole
