The cast is second behind The Beatles for most chart appearances by a group act in the Billboard Hot 100's history, and holds the record of sixth overall among all artists, with sixty-nine appearances. The cast has sold over thirty six million and over eleven million albums worldwide. The series' cover versions have also had a positive effect on the original recording artists, with sales of Rihanna's "Take a Bow" increasing by 189 percent after the song was covered in the Glee episode "Showmance".
The series features covers of numerous songs sung on-screen by the characters. Musical segments typically take the form of performances, as opposed to the characters singing spontaneously, as the intention is for the series to remain reality-based. Murphy is responsible for selecting all of the songs used, and strives to maintain a balance between show tunes and chart hits, as: "I want there to be something for everybody in every episode. That's a tricky mix, but that's very important — the balancing of that." Song choices are integral to script development, with Murphy explaining: "Each episode has a theme at its core. After I write the script, I will choose songs that help to move the story along."
Glee is choreographed by Zach Woodlee, and features five to eight production numbers per episode. Once music rights are cleared, songs are arranged and pre-recorded by the cast. Woodlee constructs the accompanying dance moves, which are then taught to the cast and filmed. Numbers can take several weeks to prepare, depending on complexity. Each episode costs at least $3 million to produce, and can take up to 10 days to film as a result of the elaborate choreography.
Hot for Teacher
Glee Cast Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh, wow man
Wait a second, man
What do you think the teacher's gonna look like this year?
Woah!
Puck
Uh!
T-teacher, stop that screamin'
Teacher, don't you see?
Don't wanna be no uptown fool
Maybe I should go to hell
But I am doing well
Teacher needs to see me after school
Finn & Puck
I think of all the education that I've missed
But then my homework was never quite like this!
Puck
Ow! Got it bad, got it bad, got it bad
I'm hot for teacher
I've got it bad, so bad
I'm hot for teacher
Hey, I heard you missed us
We're back!
I brought my pencil
Give me something to write on, man!
Whoa
Ooh!
Ooo-oo-ooo...
I heard about your lessons
But lessons are so cold
I know about this school
Little girl from Cherry Lawn
How can you be so bold?
How did you know that golden rule?
Finn & Puck
I think of all the education that I've missed
But then my homework was never quite like this!
Puck
Whoa! Got it bad, got it bad, got it bad
I'm hot for teacher
I've got it bad, so bad
I'm hot for teacher
Whoa!
Blaine: Oh man, I think the clock is slow, man!
Finn: What are you doin' this weekend?
Mike: I don't feel tardy...
Puck
Class dismissed!
Ooh-yeah!
I've got it bad, got it bad, got it bad
I'm hot for teacher
Whoa!
Oh, yes I'm hot
Oh! Ooh, yes I'm hot
Wow!
Oh my God!
Woo!
The song "Hot for Teacher" by the Glee Cast is a cover of the original song by Van Halen, released in 1984. The lyrics revolve around crushing on the teacher and the desire to be called into her office after class. The opening lines from Finn and Puck express their excitement about the new teacher's appearance and then describe their crush, singing "I'm hot for teacher." They also question why their education has been so boring in comparison to their desire for their teacher. The song ends with the chorus, "Oh yes I'm hot, Oh! Ooh, yes I'm hot."
The lyrics of the song gained controversy and criticism from some educators who believed it was inappropriate for a student-teacher relationship to be expressed in such a way. However, the song is still popular and has been featured in numerous TV shows, movies, and video games.

I swear the boys were having way too much fun filming this. The editors probably just left in the bloopers instead of cutting it out. xD
