Last Name
Glee Cast Lyrics

April & New Directions:
Last night, I got served a little too much of that poison, baby
Last night, I did things I'm not proud of, and I got a little crazy
Last night, I met a guy on the dance floor, and I let him call me baby

And I don't even know his last name
Oh my momma would be so ashamed
It started off, "Hey cutie, where you from?"
And then it turned into, "Oh no, what have I done?"
And I don't even know his last name, woah!

We left the club right around 3 o'clock in the morning
His Pinto, sittin' there, in the parking lot, well, it should have been a warning
I had no clue what I was gettin' into, so I blame it on the Cuervo
Oh, where did my manners go?

And I don't even know his last name
My momma would be so ashamed
It started off, "Hey cutie, where you from?"
And then it turned into, "Oh no, what have I done?"
And I don't even know his last name
Here we go!

Oh today, I woke up, thinkin' about Elvis somewhere in Vegas
I'm not sure how I got here or how this ring on my left hand just appeared
Outta nowhere, I gotta go, take the chips and the Pinto and hit the road
They say what happens here, stays here, all of this will disappear
There's just one little problem

I don't even know my last name
My momma would be so ashamed
It started off, "Hey cutie, where you from?"
And then it turned into, "Oh no, what have I done?"
And I don't even know my last name

What have I done?
What have I done?
What have I done?
Oh, what have I done?
I don't even know my last name
Well it turned into, "Oh no, what have I done?"
And I don't even know my last name
Yeah, yeah, yeah...woah!

Yeah, yeah, yeah...oh yeah
It started off, "Hey cutie, where you from?"
And then it turned into, "Oh no, what have I done?"

And I don't even know my last name
Oh, yeah

Overall Meaning

The Glee Cast's song Last Name is about a young woman who goes out and gets drunk, makes mistakes, and wakes up the next morning with no recollection of what happened the night before. The first verse talks about how she consumed too much alcohol, acted out of character, and ended up meeting a guy on the dance floor. She allowed him to call her baby, but she didn't even know his last name. The chorus emphasizes the shame she feels because of her actions, knowing that her mother would be ashamed of her.

The second verse describes how the night's events escalated quickly. After leaving the club at 3 am, she realized that she was in over her head with the guy she met. They ended up in his Pinto, and she blames the tequila for her lack of judgment. She wakes up the next day in Vegas with a wedding ring on her finger and no memories of the previous night. She must leave the city, but there is a problem: she doesn't know her last name. The final chorus repeats her regret, indicating her confusion and illustrating her lack of responsibility for her actions.
