My wife and I were watching the movie in the theater and I was in tears the entire time.

And in my own way I can relate to what you’re saying… I was born with ears that totally look like monkey ears… Open car doors… And between that and wearing glasses for years the kids and some teachers were horrible to me. Until finally one day in my early 40s God/Universe helped me to love and accept myself just as I am… I used to have really long hair and I used to literally tied my ears back with pieces of my hair so they wouldn’t stick out which was very painful all day… Finally one day few yrs ago shaved my entire head which at first freaked out my husband but that was one of the initial steps on my soul journey where my heart screamed out “THIS IS MEEEE!” It was very liberating even though I was crying while I shaved my head… Gratefully now I don’t think twice about my beautiful monkey ears because I allow myself to appreciate myself warts and all. You are wonderfully worthy! You are wonderfully enough! If you get a chance you may want to check out on YouTube “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. As a trans person, this song is extremely comforting and pretty perfectly describes the experience. As she sings the line "and I'm marching on to the beat I drum," she gives a little nod and puffs her chest out and picks up the pace, preparing to face the people who've hurt her. And as soon as she walks out, you can see the anxiety set in, the sudden realization of how small she is in such a crowd of people against her, that her own opinion of herself is just a fish in an entire ocean of hatred. The whole song just shows the internal battle between wanting to love yourself and wanting to believe the people around you, that it's a long process with lots of ups and downs, and that sometimes you have to act confident precisely because you are not. It shows the process of having to learn to see yourself the way you always wished others would, and it shows how self-confidence inspires everyone like you. When she was proud of herself and felt no shame walking out in front of that ball, the others felt safe with her and joined in. I think that's an important concept for a lot of people to understand, is that when you believe in yourself, you're showing everyone like you that they can believe in themselves, too.

Inspirational. Shows anybody no matter their race, appearance, disabilities, sexuality, gender or differences is equal,and capable of achieving their dreams. When this flick came out on disc I borrowed it from the library and popped into the computer. Just as this song began one of the neighborhood kids, a teenager with severe learning disabilities came by to borrow something. I noticed him staring at the screen so I invited him to sit. As the characters entered the circus he started bobbing back and forth to the music. This kid never paid attention to anything but basketball. I asked him if he liked it and he said "yeah, it's about me." He pointed to his arm and there were goosebumps. There is something powerful in this performance.

The line "there's nothing I'm not worthy of" just breaks me every time. I've always had this voice in my head telling me I'm not worthy of anything, that I'm all alone etc. But this song just spoke to me and made me realize that I'm not alone in having those feelings, and yes, even though I have a hard time accepting it, I and everyone else, are worthy of love and anything else.

My middle school hosted a talent show a few years ago. Our Sign Language club worked with our students with special needs, and they were able to perform this song in sign. Got hit by all the feels, holy shit that was a moment. Beautiful song.
