Walls
Glen Campbell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some days are diamonds
Some days are rocks
Some doors are open
Some roads are blocked

Sundowns are golden
Then fade away
But if i never do nothing
I'll get you back some day

[Chorus]
Cause you got a heart so big
It could crush this town
And i can't hold out forever
Even walls fall down

And all around your island
There's a barricade
It keeps out the danger
It holds in the pain

Sometimes you're happy
Sometimes you cry
Half of me is ocean
Half of me is sky

[Chorus]

And some things are over
Some things go on
And part of me you carry
Part of me is gone

[Chorus]

They fall down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Glen Campbell's song "Walls" are a reflection on the ups and downs of life and love. Campbell sings about the fleeting moments of happiness and the obstacles that sometimes get in the way of achieving it. He compares life to a diamond, which shines brilliantly one day and is dull the next. Similarly, some doors are open, offering opportunities, while others remain closed, blocking his way. He recognizes that time is fleeting, and the sunsets that once appeared golden fade away. He says that if he does nothing, he will still find a way to get his love back one day.

In the chorus, Campbell sings of his love's big heart, which he believes could crush the town. He realizes that he cannot hold out forever, even though walls may exist, they will eventually fall down. He recognizes that his love has created a barricade around herself, protecting herself from danger and pain. The lyrics explore the duality of life, where happiness and sadness go hand in hand, and part of him will always be with his love, while part of him is gone.

Overall, "Walls" is a beautiful song that touches on the complexities of life and love. It shows that even the strongest walls will eventually fall when love is present.

My family when I was a child always had music especially glen's remember mom and my uncle at grand dancing and goofing off while playing Glen's music now they r both gone but whenever I hear any of his music I remember them and glen also also thought interestingly enough that Glen died on my Birthday so I figure it's all intertwined faith
