My mom passed away tonight. She was 98. This was her favorite song. We played this song on our phone, put it next to her ear, she took a deep breath and then she was gone. I know that she felt safe and at peace.

Oh gosh, that is beautiful. What a way to go. Surrounded by loved ones, being serenaded by Glenn Miller. Rest in peace, Sylvia's mom.

The first time I heard this I was sitting in my grandfather's lap as a little boy of four. My grandfather was a veteran of the Pacific Campaign during World War II born in 1922. We used to solve crossword puzzles together and that was always our thing. I'm now in my 30's. Hearing this always harkens back to some of my earliest memories of my grandfather. He was a skilled carpenter and machinist in particular but understood all trades. He sadly passed away due to injuries he sustained in a car accident in 1998 when I was 9 years old. To me, he typifies the Greatest Generation who fought to end fascism and forge a better world that we enjoy today. RIP Perry Howe
