Dad walked into the kitchen from working in the fields, took his mud caked boots off, this came on the radio (wireless). I had only ever seen both parents work. Very small farm in Lincolnshire, England. I was 13 or so, my sister 8. Then we saw magic. Dad in stockinged feet, leading, hyper fast footwork, exquisite. Fred and Ginger no where near. When I was about 6 years old my oldest brother was 16 and in the high school marching band. This is one of the first songs he learned to play on the saxophone and I used to love it when he played it. I was not born when Glenn Miller was in fashion with his orchestra entertaining the audience. But I happen to like this song and the rhythm. I grew up listening to this and other bands since my Dad had all of this music and he and mom played all these music. Maybe this why I like it .

Music that lives forever! This was from my Dad's era. He came home from three years in the Pacific during WWII. He and my Mom loved to go out dancing to the big bands. This was one of their favorites. Eons later, I bought a CD of Glenn Miller songs and played it regularly while my kids grew up. I noticed it missing one time, My 14 year old son had "borrowed" it and was playing it in his room. My Dad has passed away; I'm 74, and my son is now 44, but the music lives on with us.

So nice to see others of a newer age enjoy this song too. This song was part of my growing up. I'm 29 now but when I quite younger, our old town would have these things on the radio known as trading post. From Monday thru Friday, they would have this air for an hour each day and people could sell their stuff on it.
It was pretty neat and, just before beginning that program, they would start a playing of this song right here.

Got to grow up listening to that song so many times and many memories included being with family especially with the grandparents out in the country. Such simpler times it was back then and not many worries on your mind like now. Man just hearing those first twenty seconds hits hard but in a good way and fills the mind with vivid imagery. This was my grandpa's favorite band, we'd listen to his cassette tapes in his 1970s Chevy van. We'd go on adventures when I spent the weekend with my grandparents, he'd call it "Downtown-ing" and we'd just cruise downtown with the music blasting. Actually he didn't write most of the music his orchestras performed. Where he stood out was his ability to edit and arrange.

In the Mood had been around for nearly a decade. The original arrangements had been traded and sold among several bands including Artie Shaw, but were too long (~6 minutes) to fit on a 78. Miller was the only arranger who could figure out what and where to trim without losing the song's character ... and the rest is history.

Everything in the world makes me wish I was around for the jazz age, not just this song. I first thought about being a jazz baby in in my teens, and even at 8-9 my favorite book was set in the early 20th century. Everything about LA I probably love cause Old Hollywood, and well, enter Lana del Rey. It's only fitting people tell me I look like I'm from another time. I wish, please. There'd be no climate change or strip malls, only architecture, optimism and hope.

When I was younger and I would go to my grandparents house, they would have this plastic pot of flowers that when you pushed the button the flowers moved and this song came out. It took me 10 years to figure out what the song was. Now they are both gone and this song will always remind me of my grandpa and grandma. I remember this being my grandfather's favorite. Due to my mom and dad having marriage issuse I mostly lived with my grandparents. Grandpa taught me lots of things when I was young, and learning this was his favorite song I instantly adopted it as a favorite as well. Thank you grandfather! Your humor from your old radio career taught me how to laugh at what supposed to be a horrible moment in my life, and the knowledge you taught me at my young age to inspire me into history and science. Dad passed in '07 Mom in 2015, I played their records for them and their friends. Not a dry eye in the crowd until they all started tapping their toes, then they started smiling. And they all had such good stories to tell. Not many funerals end with smiles.

Ahhh memories. My great grandparents used to play this song every time me and my siblings would come visit. Became a tradition of sorts. I was 10 years old at the time. Gramps fought in WW2 and earned a purple heart. Grandma was so caring and always had the cookies and candy waiting for us. Very fortunate that I still have memories of them a decade later, much simpler times. Appreciate what you have everyone!
