Fools Rush In
Glenn Miller w/Ray Eberle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

"Romance is a game for fools"
I used to say
A game I thought I'd never play
"Romance is a game for fools"
I said and grinned
Then you passed by
And here am I
Throwing caution to the wind

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread
And so I come to you, my love, my heart above my head.
Though I see the danger there
If there's a chance for me, then I don't care

Mm-mm-mm-mm
Fools rush in where wise men never go
But wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
When we met, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in

Fools rush in where wise men never, never, never go
Eh, but wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?
Ah, when we met, girl, I felt my life begin
So open up your heart and let this fool rush in

Just open up your heart and let this fool rush on in

Just open up your heart because I-I-I-I-I-I-I am coming in
Open up your heart and let this fool rush in!

Overall Meaning

The song "Fools Rush In" by Glenn Miller & His Orchestra Feat. Ray Eberle speaks about love and how it can make a wise man sound like a fool. The opening line of the song, "Romance is a game for fools," shows that the singer used to believe that love was a foolish endeavor. However, upon encountering someone special ("Then you passed by, And here am I"), the singer changes their tune and decides to "throw caution to the wind" and pursue love.

The chorus of the song, "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread," is an old English proverb which means that foolhardy people often rush into situations without considering the potential consequences. The singer acknowledges the danger in pursuing love but is willing to take the risk because of their feelings for the other person ("If there's a chance for me, then I don't care"). The line "Wise men never fall in love, so how are they to know?" suggests that love is something that cannot be fully understood through logic and that one must be willing to take a chance in matters of the heart.

Overall, "Fools Rush In" is a heartfelt song about taking chances in love and not being afraid to pursue one's feelings. Through its catchy melody and relatable lyrics, this song has become a classic and continues to be covered by various artists.

Such a good version. Sinatra/Dorsey's version is fairly good, too. I wish I could find an instrumental version I heard long ago on the radio. It's slower, features staccato horns, and reeds that harmonize like Glenn Miller's band.

Danced to this with my almost Second Wife, a few times, haven't listened to it in awhile. Now I'm sitting here, smiling (remembering her in my arms), and tears rolling down. Damn, I miss her

@moviefiend44

@Marcel Audubon It sounds more like she died if you ask me, perhaps before they could get married.
