Langsom Dans -
Danish/American band Gliss makes a huge departure from their old sound on the new record Langsom Dans which is gathering comparisons to Beach House, Crystal Castles and Lower Dens. The LA based duo, consisting of Victoria Cecilia & Martin Klingman, pour their collective musical imaginations into recording timeless art pop with a precise Scandinavian texture that steps away from their previous work. The 12-track LP features heavy synths and electronic beats with Danish expatriate, Victoria Cecilia, stepping into the role as lead singer. The passionate vocal harmonies dictate the recordings with stories of coming out of the darkness into a new life, bringing to mind The XX, Portishead and Depeche Mode.
This is a full-length from a band that knows their sound, and having toured with the likes of The Horrors, Raveonettes and Editors, they clearly have the credentials.
The album is released through Modern Outsider and is already climbing into the Top 5 on the alternative specialty radio charts.

Gliss Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The best times always seem to last
Ooh ooh oooh
Then we lie lie lie
To get you you you
On our side side side
Hey kids what's this all about
Hey kids what you can't see now
Somewhere in heaven
Somewhere in heaven
It's somewhere in heaven....somewhere
Ooh ooh oooh
And we start start start
And we go go go
And we lie lie lie
Hey kids what's this all about
Hey kids what you can't say now
Oooh under the covers ooh under the covers
And you can't find why....why
Somewhere in heaven
Somewhere in heaven
It's somewhere in heaven...somewhere
The lyrics of Gliss's "The Patrol" delve into the idea of finding a utopian world that is only available to a select few. The first line, "The best times always seem to last," sets the tone for the rest of the song, implying that the best moments in life are fleeting and cannot be held onto forever. The repetition of "lie" and "you" in the following lines suggests that people must deceive others in order to maintain their sense of power or control in this world. The next lines, "Hey kids what's this all about, Hey kids what you can't see now," could be interpreted as addressing the younger generation and warning them of the secrets and hidden agendas of those in power.
The lyrics then transition into a more surreal tone with the repetition of "Ooh under the covers," implying that the utopian world they are searching for is hidden, perhaps under the surface of reality. The final chorus repeats the idea of this perfect world being "somewhere in heaven," when the world is full of chaos and deception.
Overall, "The Patrol" presents a cynical view of society, with its power imbalances and lies. However, it also hints at the possibility of something better, albeit difficult to find.
