Why Me
Glynne Jess Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Time
It never was enough, no time
I always tried to fit around your life
With no consideration over mine, mine
No wrong
Everything was right and now it's gone
Like a tree, it cut me down and let me go
Like I was always banned from sayin' no
No, no, no, no

Drownin' in the darkest grey
With no answers to rescue me
I'm holdin' it down
I'm holdin' it down
Foolin' with no one to blame
You left me here without a trace
When I held you down
I held you down

So tell me why me?
I didn't even know
Why me?
You left me all alone
So cold
So cold

You stole
My happiness from underneath my nose
My insecurities left on the floor
And didn't think for a second, oh no, no-no

Oh oh drownin' in the darkest grey
With no answers to rescue me
I'm holdin' it down
I'm holdin' it down
Foolin' with no one to blame
You left me here without a trace
When I held you down
I held you down

So tell me why me?
I didn't even know
(And you still won't love me)
Why me?
You left me all alone
(So why'd you leave me?)
So cold
So cold

Why me?
I didn't even know
Why me?
You left me all alone
And now
Why me?
I didn't even know, why me
Why me?
You left me all alone

So tell me why me?
I didn't even know
(And you still won't love me)
Why me?
You left me all alone
(So why'd you leave me?)
Why me?
I didn't even know

Why me?
You left me all alone

Overall Meaning

The song "Why Me" by Jess Glynne is an emotional ballad about heartbreak and betrayal. The lyrics explore the singer's feelings of being let down by a loved one, who she believed had her happiness and well-being in mind, only to have them take it all away. The first verse sets the tone for the song, as Glynne admits that there was never enough time in the relationship, and that she always tried to accommodate her partner at her own expense. However, her partner eventually cut her down like a tree, leaving her without a voice of her own ("Like I was always banned from sayin' no").

The second verse continues with the theme of betrayal, as Glynne sings about how her insecurities were left on the floor by her partner, who didn't care about the impact of their actions on her. The chorus (which consists largely of the phrase "why me?") is a plea for answers and understanding - Glynne can't fathom why she was treated the way she was, and is left questioning how everything fell apart so quickly. The bridge is particularly poignant, as she asks why her partner won't love her and why they left her all alone. The song ends on a somewhat unresolved note, with Glynne still searching for answers.

Overall, "Why Me" is a powerful and relatable song that speaks to the pain of being betrayed by someone you trusted. The lyrics are heartfelt and raw, and Glynne's vocals are particularly soulful, making for an emotional listening experience.

I have this song on repeat. I am addicted to this song. to be honest I am addicted to all of Jess Glynne 's songs. She is the epitome of musical brilliance. Going to repeat this song "again and again". Why won't August 21 come. I need that album.

This is 100x better than any other Hollywood Pop Artists. She is a rare gem apart from so many fake auto-tune pop artists today. She can truly sing and has soul.

Liam Campbell

I agree completely, except the bit about soul, she is a ginger

This song is SOOO good! Her voice can literally fit anything. I thought she kinda only had a house/pop style vibe; especially with her songs Hold My Hand or her feature in Clean Bandit's 'Rather Be,' (which I still love, because she has an AMAZING voice, and those songs are awesome). But the fact that she can fit this slower-paced, almost R&B type beat.... ugh! My life has been made. The harmonies and the backing vocals... everything was just perfect. She is SO talented and so beautiful! I just LOVE this song; has been on repeat for a good 2 hours now. I am sooo excited for her new album.
