Crazy
Gnarls Barkley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I remember when
I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place
Even your emotions have an echo in so much space

Mm-hmm, hmm
And when you're out there, without care
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Hmm
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly

And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice
That's my only advice

Mm
Come on now, who do you
Who do you, who do you
Who do you think you are?
Hahaha, bless your soul
You really think you're in control?

Well
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart
To lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember, is thinking
I wanna be like them

Mm-hmm
Ever since I was little
Ever since I was little it looked like fun
And there's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

But maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy

Maybe we're crazy
Probably

Overall Meaning

The song "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley is a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be mentally unwell. The lyrics speak to the feeling of being out of touch with one's own emotions and the world around them, as well as the idea that perhaps this sense of disconnection and confusion is actually something that should be celebrated, rather than feared.

The opening lines of the song, "I remember when / I remember, I remember when I lost my mind," set the tone for what is to come. The singer is remembering a time when he felt completely overwhelmed and disconnected from reality, and there is a sense of longing in his voice as he recalls this experience. He goes on to describe the strange comfort he found in this place of madness, where even his emotions had an echo in an endless expanse of space.

The chorus of the song is perhaps the most well-known part, with the repeated refrain of "Does that make me crazy? / Possibly," suggesting that the singer is questioning whether his own state of mind is something that should be pathologized or celebrated. The bridge of the song brings in a note of caution, with the singer warning the listener to think twice before jumping headfirst into the world of madness.

Overall, "Crazy" is a powerful and thought-provoking song that explores the complexities of mental illness and the ways in which it can both isolate and connect us to the world around us.

What I See:

"I think the beauty of all art, is the ability to interpret what it means to the one perceiving it's start.

Not always is the original intention of the artist, what ends up being real to the one that parts with it."

I can't disagree. You may be correct; you may not ever see the crazy that I see.

Though so much of what's explained, sounds a lot like a poet's "love" to me.

My grandma passed away last night. She helped raise me. In the car she never really listened to any music, but one time she turned it on and this came on. We both sang and danced to it. From that moment on, this song became our song. I just need to post this somewhere that this song means the world to me. Thanks.

@isaacl8155

sorry for your lost

@@gatousakhel6206 I don't even care about likes, I just needed to say this. Likes don't get you anything here. I don't even care you don't believe me. But maybe the next time someone comes to you in grief, you'll have some compassion rather than trying to 'hurt' them (which is the only thing I can assume you're trying to do here).

@twilatharp3386

I enjoyed what you wrote, Nia. You'll miss your grandma for sure and I'm sorry she passed on. I had a great grandma too and it makes me happy just thinking about her anytime. Take care. xxx

@@gatousakhel6206 Likes don't do anything here. It isn't reddit karma. As Nia pointed it out its pointless.

I’m sorry for your lose, she really does sound like the life of the party

Little fact for ya.. Gnarls removed “Crazy" from UK music stores after its ninth week at the top of the British charts so people would "remember the song fondly and not get sick of it."
If only other artists did the same!!

@--cerberus--3066

I eventually get sick of it, Or i just don't want to hear it as much. But, Want to hear something a little strange? I hear old town road playing in the distance every day i go outside. It's one of my neighbors. I don't know which one . I just hear it.

@mrgreatbritain

Crom Pazuzu this could have smashed the record had it not been removed!

@charleshunter7989

Gnarls couldn't have moved this song when it's cee lo green who sang this song
