Overall Meaning

BRO, I've been listening to these guys for years and always loved this song. You can GUESS MY SURPRISE when one unsuspecting day I was in the car with the radio on where I heard this song... but it wasn't GNTGS! I thought I was hallucinating but it was Pink doing her thing! It made me super happy to know this song got the exposure it deserved.

Terrific song, no matter whose version you listen to. Just heard this one for the first time. What struck me is that Pink's version did not really alter it that much. She obviously sings in a higher octave, and there are some nice guitar accents added in her version, but it's a faithful rendition of the song. Since she writes almost all of her stuff, she must have really liked this one a lot when she heard it.

These two guys are completely amazing songwriters. How do two young guys write something this profound? Where did they find the inspiration? This just goes to show that real songwriters are just special people, talented in ways the rest of us just aren't. Pink did an amazing job on her version, but these guys wrote it. Nuff said.

First time hearing the original, I can see why Pink covered it. It fits her personality and fits her voice. Absolutely nothing wrong with the original and like it as much as Pink's. I often like covers if well done, better than originals, but these are about even.

Amazes me people saying she doesn't give them the credit. clearly not fans who watch her interviews or her shows. she had said many times it's a cover and by who, even laughs that the one song people liked the most from the album wasnt written by her, stop bitching. I am a huge fan of her and I love the original version, we give it its deserved credit.

Pink is awesome but this is so much better and here is why. They wrote it so he has more of an emotional connection when singing it. The production of this is way more interesting. The pink choruses are all the same - huge. But this goes through 3 phases. Mellow chorus, little more energy, and full energy for the third. But whats even more interesting is the last verse ramps up in vocal intensity, but not in musical intensity, delaying while building for the final explosion. Brilliant.

I like Pink's singing a bit better, but the original is certainly good to, the lyrics are amazing. I've never really understood why it's considered almost a crime to like a cover more than an original, it's just about taste. The only thing that's important is that the original artist's get the credit, which I'm not completely sure happened in this case.

when I found out that Pinks version was a cover, and i heard this one, i thought that this band is not getting enough credit, i cant even find the bands official video. Also, I think Pink kinda took advantage of the fact that this band isn't the most popular band in the world, and practically took the song as her own, i would at least say it was a cover.

Her record marks it as a cover, crediting these guys with the writing/performance. It's actually a great thing for them(relative unknowns) that someone with a massive fan base brings this into the spotlight(and people unfamiliar with them find this song, and by extension, others).

I think Pink should have done something a little more creative with it, as her version is essentially a perfect replica with a different voice, which, in my opinion, renders it a little redundant.

Ben West and Michael Busbee are well established songwriters, both have hit songs recorded by people like Nelly Furtado, Kelly Clarkson, Toni Braxton, Hunter Hayes, etc.

I saw Pink perform this the other day on TV and knew she couldn't have written it.So glad I did a little research.This version is infinitely better.For a start the last chorus has more impact in this version.But there's no point in endlessly comparing them.Just be happy that the people who wrote this not only created something terrific-but are being rewarded financially for someone else releasing a version for mass consumption.Everyone knows that 2nd hand mass music is poorer than real art.

@@jasperoesa Three years late, but this was actually released on an EP by the band back in the day, so I wouldn't say this was a demo. It's the completed song and they sold it digitally until Pink bought it. Whether or not that constitutes her song being a cover or not is up to everyone else to decide, I suppose. I certainly feel like it would fall under that category, but I can't say that's 100% true in technical terms.
