From that moment on they have been writing songs in a dusty old cellar (that also stored a collection of mounted animals). All across the Netherlands Go Back to the Zoo performed their songs, and all across the Netherlands the people liked it.
In 2008 they recorded an EP with producer Torre Florim (De Staat), which got picked up by national radio. Their single ‘Beam me up’ was used by Nike for a worldwide campaign and after that, things went crazy. Go Back to the Zoo got signed to Universal Music and in May 2009 ‘Beam me up’ was released as their first official single. In December 2009 they released their second single 'Electric' with a video which features the bandmembers as musical transformers. Friday, the 13th of August, Go Back To The Zoo released their debutalbum called 'Benny Blisto'.
In January 2016, Go Back To The Zoo announced their end as Go Back To The Zoo. They continue making other music in another band called St. Tropez.
Julia
Go Back to the Zoo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I knew it had to be tonight.
Cause I'm up so many nights for someone like you,
A fortune it is hard to find.
She said: "I'm sick of this city, because everybody dresses the same. I'm so sick of this place. Let's find a car and drive away."
Julia (who oh).
I'm gonna take you away from here.
We're gonna run, run, run, run, run run!
In Go Back to the Zoo's song "Julia", the singer is immediately drawn to a woman named Julia when she walks into the room. He recognizes that she's different from everyone else and decides that he has to make his move with her that night. The lyric "Cause I'm up so many nights for someone like you, a fortune it is hard to find" expresses how rare it is to find someone that he connects with on such a deep level.
When Julia expresses her feelings of being fed up with the city and everyone in it dressing the same, the singer realizes that they share a desire to escape their mundane lives. Hence, he suggests they find a car and run away together. The repeated chorus of "Julia, I'm gonna take you away from here. Julia, We're gonna run, run, run, run, run, run!" highlights how he sees Julia as his escape from the monotony of everyday life.
Overall, the song is about finding someone who makes life exciting and taking risks to escape the mundane. The name Julia serves as a symbol for a sense of adventure and spontaneity, propelling the singer and listeners to dream out of their limitations and live life fully.
