It’s a truly rare occasion when a debut by a band is met with the kind of feverish fan anticipation that has encircled LUCKY STREET, the full-length debut by Tallahassee, Florida melodic rockers GO RADIO. But then again, none of those other groups have JASON LANCASTER at the helm.
The GO RADIO singer/songwriter, who’s been crafting unflinchingly honest, breathtakingly beautiful music since venturing out on his own in 2007, boasts arguably the most goosebump-inducing combination of raw vocal talent and songwriting prowess in rock today. Backed by a gifted band with two stellar EPs under their belts, LANCASTER and GO RADIO are only just beginning to explore the seemingly endless potential for their mind-blowing creations.
The band--which also includes bassist MATT “BURNS” POULOS, drummer STEVEN KOPACZ and guitarist ALEX REED--immediately turned heads with the release of their self-released EP Welcome To Life in 2008, which bowled over listeners with its poignant, heartfelt lyrics and irresistible melodies. Attracting the attention of Fearless Records, the band inked a deal with the label, releasing the band’s second EP, Do Overs And Second Chances, in 2010. The EP, which featured the stunning ballad “Goodnight Moon,” landed at #8 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, going on to sell more than 15,000 copies in the U.S. In that span the group has toured extensively, heading out on high-profile runs with A Day To Remember, Secondhand Serenade and the Fearless Friends Tour with Mayday Parade among others. Despite the early success, 2011 promises to be the band’s most pivotal moment to date.
Tapping the legendary Tim O’Heir (The All-American Rejects, Hot Rod Circuit, The Starting Line, Say Anything) to man the console for LUCKY STREET, the 13 tracks showcases the producer’s knack for crafting inherently addicting ear candy. The production, and the awe-inspiring musicianship underpinning the songs, serves as an unmatched springboard for LANCASTER’s impassioned writing.
Mortality is not an unknown theme in GO RADIO’s music--the passing of LANCASTER’s father in August 2007 has inspired some of his most heart-rending compositions. But on LUCKY STREET the songwriter expands his scope on the subject with brilliant results, as on “Singing With The King,” which even goes on in its second verse to compile an “all-star band” in heaven complete with friends, family and long-lost legends Elvis, Johnny Cash, Keith Moon and Freddie Mercury.
Fans will also recognize a re-recorded version of “Forever My Father,” the tearful ballad that closed the Welcome To Life EP. Originally penned and recorded along with LANCASTER’s siblings Erin and Daniel shortly after their father’s passing, it’s one of the most personal, emotionally vulnerable works ever recorded in popular music.
Inspired by the moment and desiring to leave a copy of the song with his father before his burial, LANCASTER enlisted a friend with a recording studio to help track the composition immediately, resulting in the stirring performance heard on Welcome To Life. Approaching the song again for LUCKY STREET, LANCASTER says GO RADIO attempted to focus on the heart of the composition, instead of bogging the meaning down in heavy production gloss and arrangements.
Known for their kinetic live performances and intimate interaction with fans, a packed slate of touring in support of LUCKY STREET--including a full run on the 2011 Vans Warped Tour and an opening spot on the "On Your Side" tour with A Rocket To The Moon, Anarbor, Valencia, and RunnerRunner -- is the other crucial ingredient in bringing such vital art to the masses. GO RADIO aim to recruit a bonafide army of listeners, from multiple genres, as diverse as the band’s inimitable sound.
GO RADIO’s new album LUCKY STREET is out now on Fearless Records.

The way I loved you from just under my breath
Was a constant reminder that what beat in my chest
Wasn't mine anymore I'd guessed
You swore the sun you'd never do this again
Let down your guard and leave here more than a friend
There was a fire there could be one again
Where's the map telling me to begin
'Cause I won't let you burn out tonight
And you be the reason
I'll be the rhyme
We've both got way too much ahead
To worry 'bout what we've left behind
So you keep the beat
We'll stay on time
And fill the pages with just how both our worlds collide
When I'm left in your eyes
You needed something you could hold with your hands
Something rebellious that you don't understand
Something that you were sure we'd never remand
Won't you please clue me in on the plan
'Cause I won't let you burn out tonight
Let's just stay here. Don't breathe. Ignite
And you be the reason
I'll be the rhyme
We've both got way too much ahead
To worry bout what we've left behind
So you keep the beat
We'll stay on time
And fill the pages with just how both our worlds collide
When I'm left in your eyes
I hope to everything you never release
This hold you have on me
Where there's your signature on every piece
Of my heart that there could be
And you be the reason
I'll be the rhyme
We've both got way too much ahead
To worry 'bout what we've left behind
So you keep the beat
We'll stay on time
And fill the pages with just how both our worlds collide
When I'm left in your eyes
The lyrics to Go Radio's song "Collide" explores the singer's affection for someone who has captured their heart, highlighting their desire to stay close and not let go. The first verse suggests that the singer's love is so strong that it takes up every moment of their day, and their heart no longer belongs to them. The second verse implies that the object of the singer's affection is looking for something that they cannot find, and they hope that the singer can help them discover it. The chorus solidifies the sentiment that the two of them should focus on moving forward and embrace each other's presence to create beautiful music and write their story together.
One can speculate that the theme of the song is about the idea of two people coming together to create something beautiful. The metaphors used in the lyrics suggest that the two individuals' love and the music they produce are interconnected. The singer sings about being the "rhyme," and the other person is "the reason." By expressing this sentiment, the song is conveying that the two together can create something that is more consistent, passionate and powerful, similar to how chords are built from harmonious sounds.
Overall, "Collide" is a heartfelt track that conveys the power of two individuals coming together to create something that is more prominent and significant than their individual selves.

Tears of joy. Jason's high notes leave me breathless EVERY TIME.

I think that the reason Mayday Parade was so good in the first place is because Jason wrote the lyrics and because Jason has heart. The instuments and Derek's voice guided by Jason was absolute magic. I'm so happy he continues to make music in Go Radio.

This really is everything that's been missing from Mayday Parade. It sucks what happened, because it just feels incomplete without Jason Lancaster. Not just the vocals, but the emotions he brings to each song.
Pocco Is Here
I would say that mayday has really fixed themselves after losing him.

I still loved their second and third albums, but it was noticeably different. I'm probably more likely to listen to a song from A Lesson In Romantics or Tales Told By Dead Friends if they come on than those other two. And their latest album I struggled to get into. I liked about two thirds of that album, but I often find myself skipping those songs if they start playing. I just didn't really enjoy that album.

Whenever I listen to today's mayday parade songs without Jason, I can't help my self thinking, what if Jason is the one who sang on the second stanza. So I end up listening where Jason is really part of the song like the first 2 albums of Mayday Parade just to make me feel better. I don't think if I explained it well and was able to share my point properly but yeah. Just missing the old mayday parade but I am going to meet Mayday Parade this October, can't wait!

I've been a massive Mayday Parade fan boy for years, finally came over to see what Jason has done with Go Radio and I am loving it!!! :)

I'm super pumped for this new album. I loved the last one but this one is 10 times better. He's got such a great voice. Can't wait for the next one.

This is why I love music. When you are at a low point in life or just having problems in life, music somehow just finds its way to tune into your situation and makes you see brighter parts to the problem. It helps you see a way the problem can turn out for better.
Smashing Make Believe
Can we just have a moment to think how great this band is? Like so amazing.
