Earthsblood
God Forbid Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I haven't been your king, I promised I would be
Liar, puppet
Addiction fill the free, Free realm I used to be
Sick, Diseased
Am I helpless to the fate of this world?
Has color or belief separated us? Separation...from our neighbors
The secrets you try to hide ore revealed time and time again
We reap the day, Can't go back home
We scavenge graves, Off to hell we go
I never thought it would come to this
Bare witness to the destructive power of man
Why has it come to this?
Rules broken and changed to satisfy
We reap the day, Can't go back home
We scavenge graves, Off to hell we go
(solo: Doc)
(Lead: Dallas)
All together we stand and rise, or there will be blood
Opposition set around me, Illusion of equality. Liberty, a far cry
All together we stand and rise, or there will be blood
Opposition set around me. Illusion of equality. Liberty, a far cry
Sick. Diseased
(solo: Doc, Kris Norris)
We are born of conviction. Reality is my muse
Become the meditation. The tragedy reveals the truth
Scratching the surface. Looking for answers
What do you see when you see me?
The remains of a world in rage, and the gaze of a dead eye

All together we stand and rise. All together we stand and rise
All together we stand and rise. All together we stand and rise.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of God Forbid's song Earthsblood speak of the downfall of a society and the despair of an individual amidst it. The opening lines where the singer acknowledges that he hasn't been the king he promised to be is perhaps a reference to the failed authority figures within the society. He goes on to talk about addiction filling the free realm he used to be, indicating the spreading of negativity and chaos. The lines "Am I helpless to the fate of this world? Has color or belief separated us?" show a sense of hopelessness and the divide amongst people based on their beliefs or race. The singer speaks of secrets hidden by people that get revealed time and time again, leading to the downfall of the society. The lines "We reap the day, Can't go back home, We scavenge graves, Off to hell we go" exhibit the panic and chaos that has taken over, leading people to act in desperation.

The song then moves to a call to action, a warning that unless everyone stands together there will be bloodshed. The line "Sick. Diseased" is perhaps an allusion to the current state of the society. The lines "All together we stand and rise, or there will be blood, Opposition set around me, Illusion of equality. Liberty, a far cry" emphasize the need for unity, and the fact that the society at large is not what it claims to be - that there are hidden agendas working against the people. The guitar solos towards the end drive the point home, and the last line "The remains of a world in rage, and the gaze of a dead eye, All together we stand and rise" is a poignant ending that encapsulates the song's message.
