1) God Forbid was a melodic metalcore band from New Brunswick, New Jersey that was formed in 1998. Their style is different than the styles presented by other, popular metalcore bands: God Forbid's influences are deep-rooted in thrash metal. Building up a following in the late 1990s by touring with bands such as Cradle of Filth, Nile, and Candiria, their first full album Reject the Sickness was released by 9 Volt Records in 1999. This album received heavy rotation from WSOU-FM in the New York City area, and the band was subsequently signed to Century Media Records, releasing the album Determination in 2001. They played on the MTV2 Headbanger's Ball tour with Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and Lamb of God. In 2004, they released Gone Forever, which helped increase their status considerably. They supported Machine Head along with Caliban in Nov/Dec of 2004 in the UK. The next year, they released IV: Constitution of Treason, a concept album about the end of the world. In 2005-2006 they supported Trivium on their UK tour along with Mendeed & Bloodsimple.
In 2009, they released a brand-new album, Earthsblood. To promote this album, they went on a tour with August Burns Red, DevilDriver and Anthrax.
Empire Of The Gun

The day I held you in my arms, now I'm gone
The warm embrace of my protector,
Is lost forever
I will make it back to you!
Or die trying
You are with me, every step I take
I know not why, but I must honor you
I swear I will make it, back home, back home
Soldiers,
Won't be cast into they're afterlives
For a fight,
They never believed in
GO!
It seems like yesterday (The Day!)
The day I held you in my arms, now I'm gone
The warm embrace of my protector,
Is lost forever
I will make it back to you!
Or die trying
You are with me, every step I take
I know not why, but I must honor you
I swear I will make it, back home, back home
Soldiers,
Won't be cast into they're afterlives
For a fight,
They never believed in
I WASN'T BORN TO DIE!
Empire of the gun.
Empire of the...gun
Empire of the gun.
We will not fail,
We will not falter
Empire of the gun!
Soldiers,
Won't be cast into they're afterlives
For a fight,
They never believed in
I wasn't born to die
(I WASN'T BORN TO DIE!)
But I would sacrifice, my life!
The lyrics to God Forbid's song "Empire of the Gun" speak about the struggles of a soldier who is far away from their loved one. The song begins with the soldier reminiscing about the day they held their loved one in their arms. However, now they are gone and the warmth of their protector is lost forever. The soldier is determined to make it back home, even if it means risking their life to do so. They state that their loved one is with them every step they take, and they must honor them by making it home.
The chorus of the song is a call to arms, with the soldiers being instructed to fight for a cause they truly believe in. They won't be sent to their afterlives for a fight they didn't believe in. The soldier asserts that they were not born to die, but if they must sacrifice their life for a cause they believe in, they will do so. The song ends with the rallying cry of "Empire of the Gun" and a determination to not fail or falter.
Overall, the lyrics of "Empire of the Gun" speak to the emotional and physical toll that war takes on soldiers and their families. It's a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fight for their country.
