1) melodic metalcore band
2) ambient electronic
1) God Forbid was a melodic metalcore band from New Brunswick, New Jersey that was formed in 1998. Their style is different than the styles presented by other, popular metalcore bands: God Forbid's influences are deep-rooted in thrash metal. Building up a following in the late 1990s by touring with bands such as Cradle of Filth, Nile, and Candiria, their first full album Reject the Sickness was released by 9 Volt Records in 1999. This album received heavy rotation from WSOU-FM in the New York City area, and the band was subsequently signed to Century Media Records, releasing the album Determination in 2001. They played on the MTV2 Headbanger's Ball tour with Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and Lamb of God. In 2004, they released Gone Forever, which helped increase their status considerably. They supported Machine Head along with Caliban in Nov/Dec of 2004 in the UK. The next year, they released IV: Constitution of Treason, a concept album about the end of the world. In 2005-2006 they supported Trivium on their UK tour along with Mendeed & Bloodsimple.
In 2009, they released a brand-new album, Earthsblood. To promote this album, they went on a tour with August Burns Red, DevilDriver and Anthrax.
War of Attrition
God Forbid Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In the absence. I will introduce my wrath, my malice
Wicked cancer grows beneath the surface, head to finger
You make me sick, hating on my freedom it doesn't matter
What you say. It eats away...
I am the hunted. I am the atrocity. The only chance my kin survives
I am the hunted. I am the atrocity. The only chance my kin survives
This is a war of attrition
This is a war of Attrition
No...We are the voice of tomorrow
No...to lies and deception
No...to the chokehold of despair
No...It eats away
This is a war of attrition
Bring it on. Bring it on. Bring it on
This is a war of attrition
In the return from disenchantment
This is the one thing on his mind
How has it come to this?
All that is remembered is shame
Cast into the landscape searching for his...retribution
Retribution...the only chance
Blood will spill. Blood will spill
Bow down to your master. Retribution. Retribution
Bring it on. This is a war of attrition...attrition
This is a war of attrition.
The lyrics of God Forbid's song War Of Attrition reflect a sense of anger and rebellion against oppression and injustice. The singer of the song appears to be someone who has been pushed to his limits and is now fighting back against those who seek to control him.
The opening lines "Bring it on, in the absence. I will introduce my wrath, my malice" suggest that the singer is ready to take on his oppressors, even if they are not currently present. He sees himself as a force to be reckoned with, with a "wicked cancer" growing inside him that will eventually consume his enemies.
The chorus emphasizes the idea that this is a "war of attrition," a battle of endurance in which the singer is determined to outlast his opponents. He sees himself as the hunted, but also as an atrocity - something monstrous that his enemies fear. The singer's motivation is to survive for the sake of his kin, to whom he is the only chance of survival.
The second half of the song focuses on the singer's determination to seek revenge for the shame he has experienced. He sees himself as a master, demanding retribution from those who have wronged him. The final lines of the song ("Bring it on. This is a war of attrition...attrition. This is a war of attrition.") emphasize the singer's defiance and determination to keep fighting until the bitter end.
Overall, the lyrics of War Of Attrition are a powerful expression of anger and rebellion against oppression, delivered with aggressive vocals and pounding guitar riffs.
