The Reckoning
Godhead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come to me
Kill for me
Worship me
Follow everything I do
As you bow before me
I'm the one they told you
Would come again
Let me show you all the signs
To bring about the end

I'll take you down
To a hole where you
Will always be alone
I'll turn you out
On a world that doesn't
Care if you belong

I'll push you off
Of the throne that
You erected for yourself
You will be tossed
On a pile of all the
Filth that you created

I watched you take the power
In your hands and
Throw it all away
I knew you would
Fall down again someday

Come on now
You know I won't hurt you
Come on now
I'm here to protect you
Come on now I'll
Lead you to shelter
Come on now you know

I'll take you down
To a hole where you
Will always be alone
I'll turn you out
On a world that doesn't
Care if you belong

I'll push you off
Of the throne that
You erected for yourself
You will be tossed
On a pile of all the
Filth that you created

I'll take you down
To a hole where you
Will always be alone
I'll turn you out
On a world that doesn't
Care if you belong

I'll push you off
Of the throne that you
Erected for yourself
You will be tossed

On a pile of all the
Filth that you created

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Godhead's song The Reckoning appear to be about the idea of a higher power or a god-like figure asking for followers to bow down and worship them. The lines "Come to me, Kill for me, Worship me" scream out the notion of blind devotion and subservience. The subsequent lines, "As you bow before me, I'm the one they told you, would come again" seem to suggest that this god-like figure has come back to Earth after a long absence.

The lyrics then take a dark turn as the god-like figure urges the listener to follow them, promising to show them "all the signs to bring about the end." The next lines suggest a sense of punishment or ultimate judgment, as the figure says they will take the listener down to a hole where they will always be alone, turn them out on a world that doesn't care if they belong, and push them off a throne they erected for themselves. They warn that the listener will be tossed on a pile of all the filth they created- a clear reference to the idea of facing the consequences of one's actions.

Overall, The Reckoning by Godhead appears to be a warning against blindly following a higher power without questioning their motives, as well as a warning against creating chaos and filth without regard for the consequences.

Genialna piosenka. Znalazłem ją w napisach końcowych do filmu "Blair Witch Project 2 - Księga cieni" :-)

Agreed... Saw them open for Manson once...
They rocked!
They sounded better than, The Union Underground, who played after them. But, of course, Manson cleaned house that night.... It was the Guns, God, and Government tour...
When he was in his prime!
Good times.

I actually saw this band and hung out with them after their gig along with Gravity Kills and Jason signed my CD and let me and my friend I had back in the day take pictures. We met and got pictures of the other band members. This album brings back memories back in the winter of 2001 when I was 18 or 19. I'm 38 today and still enjoy hearing Godhead.

Yeah I saw them in Montreal, they were doing the first act, then Gravity Kills and the main act was Pigface. Life was so different then...

You can listen to the meaning of the lyrics and the beat of the music. I've always thought of music as a form of poetry.

Flight of the Bumblebee

I seen these guys open for Rammstein in Philly at the Electric Factory in 2001. It was truly awesome. Godhead came out and played Pet Semetary by The Ramones along with Rammstein at emcore.
