They are perhaps best known for performing the song "Monkey Magic" for the 1978 television series "Saiyūki," which was brought over to the United Kingdom as "Monkey." This led to several releases through BBC Records, including "Monkey Magic," "Gandhara," and the LP "Monkey," which charted in the UK. Godiego are also noteworthy for performing the theme song "Galaxy Express 999" (Three-Nine) for the animated movie, and for the soundtrack to the 1977 Nobuhiko Obayashi film "House," in which they also appear in a brief cameo.
They were the first rock band to play in the People's Republic of China as well as Nepal.

There was a land of the free
Fantasy and dreams
Were its untouched wealth
And goodness and love were real
Each man desires to reach Gandhara
His very own utopia
In the striving, in the seeking soul
In Gandhara, Gandhara
They say it was in India
Gandhara, Gandhara
The place of light Gandhara
Though long ago and far
Beyond the winding road
Always beyond every bend
A beautiful land still waits for the few
Who make it to the very end
Each man desires to reach Gandhara
His very own utopia
In the striving, in the seeking soul
Man can see Gandhara
(*) In Gandhara, Gandhara
They say it was in India
Gandhara, Gandhara
The place of light Gandhara
* repeat
The lyrics to Godiego's song Gandhara describe a mythical land of freedom, dreams, love, and goodness that exists beyond the winding road and beyond every bend. Despite being located long ago and far away, the beauty of Gandhara still waits for those few who make it to the very end of the journey. The song speaks to the human desire to reach one's own utopia, where hopes and aspirations can be fulfilled. The lyrics suggest that the striving and seeking soul of man can catch a glimpse of Gandhara, a place of light that was said to be located in India.
The song is an uplifting and optimistic reflection on human nature and our capacity to dream of a better world. The repeated refrain of "Gandhara, Gandhara" underscores the mythical nature of the land and its almost mystical attraction for people who seek inner fulfillment. The lyrics suggest that finding Gandhara is a journey of the soul, not just a physical destination. The song captures the universal human desire for utopia, a place where all of our dreams can come true.

As a kid, this song for some reason made me feel sad, as an adult, I realized it was because this is a song about a journey that will never have an end and no one will ever reach it.
