1) Gojira is a metal band from Bayonne, France. Their lyrics focus on life, ecology, and spiritual themes. They were formed in 1996 by brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals and lead guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Alexandre Cornillon (bass guitar). Cornillon left the band in 2001 and Jean-Michel Labadie became their bass player. Genres that they have been associated with over their career include death metal, progressive metal, thrash metal and groove metal.
They had initially named their group Godzilla, but due to legal constraints had to change their name. They therefore chose to re-name their band Gojira - the original Japanese version of their name (in Japanese Gojira means gorilla-whale or gorilla the size of a whale). Some of the content of their music is focused on the ecological effects of human activity on the Earth.
Joe and Mario Duplantier also play in an experimental metal band called Empalot.
In 2007 Joe also became the bass player for former Sepultura members Max and Igor's new project, Cavalera Conspiracy.
2) Canadian powerviolence band existing from 1996-1998 based in Toronto, Ontario.
A Sight to Behold
Gojira Lyrics

Misunderstand each other, out of control we remain
There is a mystery, we're facing a sight to behold
This is what we make of the world, we throw everything away
The way we all behave is not understandable
It is so sad to see the wealth of our planet fade away
We all behave like children, taking off the head of our
We drain the oceans and suck all the blood out of the soil
We spend the time we have left fighting and killing each other
Lust for comfort, entertainment becomes an obsession
And there is so much time to kill
The way I see things is so simple
The fact I'm walking, standing on this land
Exhausted is the realm of nature, friends are dying
The living creatures on our side
The way I see myself, so confused, so sophisticated
I have to stay away from me
But I still don't get the point, what's worth destroying all the worlds
Try not to get it anymore
You burn yourself, set fire for your own good
We die eyes closed, dig your own grave now
Tossed in the blaze, naked on the flame
Tossed in the blaze, naked on the flame
Lost with no pride, drowned in the filth
The giant snake is coming down to eat our heads
And the flood will kill us, Mantus is rising from under
The way I see things is so simple
The fact I'm living, dying on this land
Exhausted is the realm of nature, friends are dying
The living creatures on our side
The way I see myself, so confused, so sophisticated
Don't have to stay away from me
But I still don't get the point, what's worth destroying all the worlds
Try not to get it anymore, try not to get it anymore
Try not to get it anymore, try not to get it anymore
The lyrics to Gojira's "A Sight to Behold" speak to the tragic impact that humanity has on the natural world. The first verse speaks to the violent and destructive nature of human behavior, as we slaughter other beings without fully understanding the consequences of our actions. Despite this, we remain out of control, unable to comprehend the mystery we face. The second verse laments the wasteful and selfish behavior of humans, who drain resources and kill each other for entertainment. Even when faced with the simple truth that we are destroying the world, we still fail to see the point.
The chorus increases in intensity, with imagery of burning and drowning, as if highlighting the violent end we are leading ourselves to. The mention of Mantus rising from under may be a reference to Roman mythological figures, with Mantus being the god of death and the underworld. The final verse brings an air of introspection, as the singer contemplates their own place in this cycle. They are confused and sophisticated, but ultimately cannot comprehend why the world is being destroyed. They try to distance themselves from their own destructive nature but ultimately cannot escape it.
Overall, the song's lyrics are a powerful plea for humans to wake up and see the damage they are causing to the natural world before it's too late.

Gojira saved me from a life of addiction and self destruction. I literally found this band while detoxing and filled my ear holes with their impressive lyrical and musical abilities and I'm proud to say that I maintain sobriety to this day and I just entered a career of truck driving for a fantastic company and my future looks awesome. Plus I have turned a lot of people onto this band. Long live Gojira. Peace be to all
Hesusfkr
Good luck and a sober future for you!

I've literally had a similar experience. Got into Gojira a few months ago when I decided to keep my addiction in check. Some of the music I listened to didn't feel the same when I was not high all the time. I stopped listing to a lot of the mellow music I used to listen to. I started getting bored of music very easily. But that is not the case with Gojira. Their music is fucking incredible.

I've had the chance to not have any addiction for now, and I'd say that Gojira, Devy, Meshuggah, LP, etc have prevented me to follow this path so rock on man, hope you the best ! \m/
