L'Enfant sauvage
Gojira Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So long I've been trying to match
It doesn't work, I'm trying, I don't know
The aberration of this world I tried to deal with
It killed a part of me that was raging
The pain is gone, the denial
I ran away from institutions
I owe myself life
There's no way
I will respond to this passion, anger flowing through me
There is light in this world I fight for
The reason you won't leave this cage, betray your child
The desire that you once had to reveal yourself
Forgot to create your own life

Anger, lies, denial

This righteous anger boiling inside of us
Won't last forever
Don't fear to let it out
Branches have grown through
The wolf is your master

The sky is all
Over me

I run on time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Gojira's song "L'Enfant Sauvage" reveal a deeply personal, introspective look at the struggles of being human, frustrated with the constraints of the world around us. The song is primarily about coming to terms with the fact that we cannot always control the circumstances around us, and the pain and anger that come with that understanding. The phrase "L'Enfant Sauvage" (which means "The Wild Child" in French) reflects the idea that there is an untamed, primal part of ourselves that resists and rebels against the pressures of society.

The first verse expresses the frustration of trying to fit in and be accepted in a world that doesn't always make sense. The singer has tried everything to match the expectations of others, but it doesn't work. They realize that their attempts to deal with the aberrations of the world around them have killed a part of themselves that was once raging with energy and life. They have gone through a painful process of denial and rejection of institutionalized beliefs in order to find the strength to live life on their own terms.

The second verse is about the struggle to find meaning and purpose in a world that is often dark and oppressive. The singer believes that there is light in the world worth fighting for, even though they recognize that many people have given up on their own desires and dreams. They encourage listeners to let out their righteous anger, to embrace the wild and untamed parts of themselves, and to remember that they are their own masters.

Overall, "L'Enfant Sauvage" is a powerful and emotionally resonant song about the human condition, the struggles we all face, and the hope we can find in the darkest of times. It's a reminder that even though we live in a world that often feels like a cage, we always have the power to break free and create our own lives.

+PowerThoughts Meditation Club This is so weird.. I subbed to you a few weeks ago, and now I see you comment on a video for one of my favourite bands. What a strange coincidence.

Born in Winter was also the first song I ever heard by Gojira.

I'm fairly new to Gojira, and I must ask: How the fuck they make every riff so intense and emotional?

@jorgecorbi807

They just do

@nostrum7278

i can sort of explain it because i feel like i understand it in my own way. when im full with emotion and grab my guitar to write, there is a cry inside my mind that needs to be heard. can be as simple as that riff in the verses but yet its so beautiful and emotional. And the rest? Just break that low string my guy. Let it rip. Let it flow. Gojira guitar riffs are rather simple for this reason, because it works this way. This is my take on it
