1) Gojira is a metal band from Bayonne, France. Their lyrics focus on life, ecology, and spiritual themes. They were formed in 1996 by brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals and lead guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Alexandre Cornillon (bass guitar). Cornillon left the band in 2001 and Jean-Michel Labadie became their bass player. Genres that they have been associated with over their career include death metal, progressive metal, thrash metal and groove metal.
They had initially named their group Godzilla, but due to legal constraints had to change their name. They therefore chose to re-name their band Gojira - the original Japanese version of their name (in Japanese Gojira means gorilla-whale or gorilla the size of a whale). Some of the content of their music is focused on the ecological effects of human activity on the Earth.
Joe and Mario Duplantier also play in an experimental metal band called Empalot.
In 2007 Joe also became the bass player for former Sepultura members Max and Igor's new project, Cavalera Conspiracy.
2) Canadian powerviolence band existing from 1996-1998 based in Toronto, Ontario.

In the afterlife
Par-delร le ciel
Par-delร le soleil
In all there is to learn
The sun is on our side
And though you're on the run
Expanded to the state of light
The deepest corners of the world
Gliding through the low lands
And swimming all the oceans
Walking through the silence
Already made it through the night
There will be a new day
Whenever the sun rises
You're invisible
You're in everything
(Tell me what you see)
Tell me what you see
(When you're everywhere)
When you're everywhere
(Tell me now)
Tell me now
While you drift away from all the plates of this world
You're put out of misery
Giant bones hurt
(You won't have to face it again)
(Every step of the way gets you higher)
All the voices trapped underneath the ground
Let them all go in the sky
Find the power lost underneath the ground
Let it all blow in the sky
All the voices trapped in my head
Let them all scream in the night
Find the power lost underneath the ground
Let it all blow in the sky
The song "Low Lands" by Gojira is a reflection about the afterlife and the journey towards the state of light. The first two lines of the song talk about looking beyond the sky and the sun, suggesting that the afterlife is someplace else. The verse goes on to say that despite being on the run, one will survive, hinting that this journey might not be an easy one. The chorus part of the song speaks of a transformation, where one will become invisible and will be in everything, everywhere. The idea is to imagine oneself in the afterlife, unbound by the limitations of the physical world.
The phrase 'Low Lands' in the context of the song seems to describe the earth, the world, and the physical limitations we face. The singer talks about gliding and swimming through the low lands, indicating that the journey towards the afterlife is a freeing experience where they can transcend physical boundaries. The next verse indicates that one has already made it through the darkness and that a new day is coming, much like the sun rising.
The bridge of the song talks about the idea of releasing emotions and power that are trapped underneath the ground. The lyrics suggest that one can let go of the negative emotions and let them dissipate into the sky. The final lines of the song seem to be talking about facing the fears within oneself and learning to overcome them.
Overall, the song carries a religious and philosophical theme about overcoming physical limitations and unlocking hidden potential within ourselves.

That moment, when you're 50, and you've listened to all kinds of music for decades, and you realize... you needed this band and their music years ago.
@Hammersaurus
Welcome to the family.

Excellent. They are rising among favorites... though it'll be hard to unseat my top 3. Glad to see I am among like-minded folks.

"Tell me what you see
In the afterlife "
The mother of Goijira's Joe and Mario Duplantier mother passed away after a year-long battle fighting cancer, during the recording of Magma. Their loss inspired the direction that Gojira take on the album and this song finds Joe Duplantier talking to his late mom directly. "We were so inspired by how incredibly brave she was before she passed, she understood that there was no hope left and she embraced it. She gave us what she had to give, she took care of her material things, her bank accounts, her rent, all those details, in an attempt to detach herself from all worldly possessions.
It was a lesson, I had an example from my Mum on how to leave this world with grace and I'll have that forever, it's a gift that she gave to me and my brother and my sister. We have that in us and it's an incredible gift; I hope my own death will be as peaceful and beautiful as hers โฆ we shall see."
The song's music video was directed by Alain Duplantier, the cousin of Joe and Mario Duplantier. It includes shots inside an empty house. Joe Duplantier explained: "One of the 'characters' featured in this film is 'Gayeres,' the family house where Mario and I grew up. We jammed to our first songs, started Gojira, and recorded most of our albums there."

My mother has just passed away in a very similar way. This song haunts me since her departure. Hope I'll be as brave they had when I'll face the Death my self.
