After live-appearances together with Scream Silence and Whispers in the Shadow the Band released their dark wave/postpunk-like debut-album "Stigma 3.am" in 2000, which found regardful attention by the audience and the press.
In 2001 Drummer Nestor de Valley joined the Band and the result of the more stronger and the more intensive sound was the very dark and nihilistic album "Thalassemia". It followed concerts with Clan of Xymox, The Crüxshadows and Ikon.
After some changes in the line-up (the Band´s long time friend and live-keyboarder Sven Wolff became permanent member of the GOLDEN APES) the Band released "Helianthos and the War", their third studio-album. It was a balancing act between the experimental facings of the bands origins and the dark melancholy of their later work and it convinced even the last sceptics.
This combination of earcatching melodies, an atmosphere, which oscillates between the singer´s dark melancholic voice, powerful guitars and elegising soundscapes and the complex, surreal lyrics became soon the trademark of the band, then with their fourth album "Structures [The Inner Scars]" (2004) they consolidated their reputation to be one of the most innovative and interesting German Goth-Rock Bands, proved by several sampler contributions and live-appearances at well-known festivals, most important the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig/Germany.
In early 2007 the GOLDEN APES are going to release their new album, which will be called "The Geometry of Tempest".

Secret Love
Golden Apes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Only all the stars above guessed a conspiracy...
The rest had not the slightest notion,'cause we were the most perfect spies...
Noone knew our faces but everyone believed in our lies...
Secret love...
Once I had a secret love and our mystery was a religion...
Even gods had no idea to whom my heart owned...
But she succombed a betrayal...
And now it's rottening down my feet...
My secret love's destiny...
Golden Apes's song Secret Love is a slow-paced, melancholic track that speaks of a love that was kept a secret. The singer reminisces about a love affair that was hidden from everyone but the stars above. The couple was secretive and discreet, as they were perfect spies, unknown and unnoticed by the rest. The secrecy and the mystery of the love were what made it all the more memorable and significant to the singer, and they regarded it as a religion.
The lyrics suggest that the secrecy surrounding the love affair was what made it special, but the love came to an end after one of the lovers betrayed the other. The singer refers to "one red apple and mortality," implying a reference to the biblical story of Adam and Eve, in which the forbidden fruit was an apple. The betrayal led to the downfall of the love affair, now rotting beneath the singer's feet.
The song portrays love as fragile and temporary, as it can crumble when faced with inevitable betrayals and heartbreaks. The lyrics are open to interpretation, with some people interpreting them as a love affair that is hidden from society due to cultural, social, or personal reasons. Others see them as a reflection of the fleeting nature of all things, even love.
