Goldenhorse's debut album Riverhead was released in October 2002. Over the following 18 months, various singles from the album started to be played on the radio and the band played live throughout New Zealand. Sales of the record climbed slowly then steadily and in August 2004 the album reached no.1 on the NZ national charts.
"Out of the Moon" was released in 2005. "Reporter" was released in 2007.
The band has not said it has split; the time-out is described as a hiatus with Morrell releasing a solo album in 2010 and King debuting Grand Rapids in 2011.

Fish
Goldenhorse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
About the sea you live in?
Morning comes
You float up through the water
Like some fish
Or skate among the rock pools
Winter or summer
You find the sun
And I see (I see) you rising in the light above me
And I see (I see) you sinking through the night below me
Something's wrong
So you swim across the ocean lanes
Many miles
Find a new land and make the coast
Become a man
And walk the streets bewildered
The cars and mountains
The palace gates
And I see (I see) you rising in the light above me
And I see (I see) you sinking through the night below me
The lyrics to Goldenhorse's song "Fish" use sea and fish imagery to explore themes of change and transformation. The singer is fascinated by someone who lives in the sea and moves with ease through its waters. The imagery of floating and swimming suggests a fluidity and adaptability that is admirable. The lyrics also suggest that this person is not afraid of change, even if it means leaving the familiar and venturing into the unknown. The line "Something's wrong" suggests that there is a problem or challenge that this person is facing, and they must swim across the ocean and find a new land to make a new life for themselves. The idea that this person can "become a man" and walk the streets bewildered suggests that transformation and growth can be both exciting and overwhelming.
The chorus of the song repeats the lines "And I see you rising in the light above me /And I see you sinking through the night below me." These lines suggest that the singer is watching this person's journey from afar, possibly feeling inspired or envious of their ability to change and adapt. The use of the word "fish" in the title and throughout the song is interesting because it is often associated with something small and insignificant, yet the song champions the strength and resilience that can come from being adaptable like a fish.

Morning comes
When the morning arrives
You float up through the water
You gently rise to the surface of the water
Like some fish
Like a sea creature
Or skate among the rock pools
Or glide in the rock pools
Winter or summer
Regardless of the season
You find the sun
You bask in the sun's warm rays
And I see you rising in the light above me
I observe you emerging in the light above me
And I see you sinking through the night below me
I watch you submerge in the darkness beneath me
Something's wrong
Something isn't right
So you swim across the ocean lanes
You travel across the open seas
Many miles
Across great distances
Find a new land and make the coast
Discover a new landfall and settle there
Become a man
Grow up and mature
And walk the streets bewildered
Stroll through the streets in a state of confusion
The cars and mountains
The vehicles and hills
The palace gates
The gates of the grand palace
And I see you rising in the light above me
I observe you emerging in the light above me
And I see you sinking through the night below me
I watch you submerge in the darkness beneath me
