Goldenhorse's debut album Riverhead was released in October 2002. Over the following 18 months, various singles from the album started to be played on the radio and the band played live throughout New Zealand. Sales of the record climbed slowly then steadily and in August 2004 the album reached no.1 on the NZ national charts.
"Out of the Moon" was released in 2005. "Reporter" was released in 2007.
The band has not said it has split; the time-out is described as a hiatus with Morrell releasing a solo album in 2010 and King debuting Grand Rapids in 2011.

Golden Dawn
Goldenhorse Lyrics

Oh you cover my back in sweet little kisses
When I lie awake I'm sure you kiss me softly and you tell me
Tell me we'll be far away
Like the red sunlight when I wake up
It's streaming through my window shining through my bedroom door
You are the golden dawn and I'm loving and I'm loving you
Baby you know come close to me now
Oh that I might imbibe from your lips the power of sleep tonight
Because no no I don't want to die I'm sure
So kiss me softly and please tell me
Tell me we'll be far away
Like the red sunlight when I wake up
It's streaming through my window shining through my bedroom door
You are the golden dawn and I'm loving and I'm loving you
Late at night when eyes look wide we sleep through these hours
Watching the cars
Like the red sunlight when I wake up
It's streaming through my window shining through my bedroom door
You are the golden dawn and I'm loving and I'm loving you
And I'm loving you
In the lyrics of Golden Dawn, Goldenhorse describes the comfort and security provided by a loved one. The singer acknowledges the kindness and affection they receive from their partner, who covers their back with sweet kisses and reassures them with words of support. The singer seeks refuge in their loved one, hoping to imbibe the power of sleep through a soft kiss, perhaps as a means of escaping from the struggles and stresses of life. The lyrics convey a sense of warmth and tenderness, as well as a desire to escape and find peace.
The reference to the 'red sunlight' and 'golden dawn' may represent hope and renewal, suggesting that no matter how difficult the night may seem, a new day will bring new opportunities and brighter experiences. The lyrics also mention watching cars while sleeping, which may be interpreted as a metaphor for the passage of time and the transient nature of life.

Love this song, first saw the video and thought it was great, consequently bought the album. I think it is a poetic interpretation and like the fact that they were trying to do something different with the video, not mainstream, which is reflective of the band itself.
