The fourth album Seventh Tree placed a greater emphasis on ambient and downtempo music, drawing inspiration from nature and paganism, while their fifth album, Head First, found the group exploring 1980s-influenced synthpop. Head First also earned the second Grammy Award nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2010. Goldfrapp released their critically acclaimed sixth studio album, the folktronica-influenced Tales of Us, in September 2013. Goldfrapp released their seventh studio album, Silver Eye, in March 2017, which debuted at number six on the UK Albums Chart.

I've lost my way
I've lost this ocean
I poisoned me
People collector
People collector
I'm on the move
Oh, and I
Wouldn't lie
Wanna be your
I buried bones, I borrowed skin
To save me from the hell I'm in
Your fantasy
And every time I think of you
I see the dark, I hear their hooves
They're coming
They're coming for you
I've lost the will to
I've lost my way
I've lost this ocean
I poisoned me
People collector
People collector
I'm on the move
For you
Oh, and I
Wouldn't lie
Wanna be your
I buried bones, I borrowed skin
To save me from the hell I'm in
Your fantasy
And every time I think of you
I see the dark, I hear their hooves
They're coming
They're coming for you
The lyrics of Goldfrapp's "Ocean" convey a sense of being lost and trapped, struggling to escape from a situation that is self-inflicted. The first stanza suggests a feeling of hopelessness, with the singer having lost their will and way, as well as having "lost this ocean." The phrase "I poisoned me" is particularly poignant, suggesting that the singer is responsible for their own condition. The use of "people collector" in the following lines adds to the sense of despair, suggesting that the singer is collecting people in some way, a metaphor perhaps for being consumed by their own inner demons.
The second stanza continues the sense of desperation, with the singer using borrowed skin and burying bones to try to escape from their situation. However, it's clear that this is a temporary measure, and the singer recognizes that they are living in a fantasy world that is not sustainable. The dark imagery of the final lines is particularly striking, with the singer envisioning a horde of dark forces coming to get them - though it's possible that this is simply a metaphor for the singer facing the consequences of their own actions.
Overall, the lyrics of "Ocean" suggest a deeply personal struggle with addiction, depression, or some other kind of inner demons. Though the circumstances are left purposely vague, the raw emotion and honest portrayal of despair make for a powerful piece of music.

Dave's voice is just so silky smooth, like rough silk over vanilla ice cream floating on the still waters. And Alison, her voice is just so perfect, like dark wings fluttering in between the rain drops.
Perfection.
