UTOPIA
Goldfrapp [LIVE] Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No colors or shapes
No sound in my head
I forget who I am
When I'm with you
There's no reason
There's no sense
I'm not supposed to feel
I forget who I am
I forget
Fascist baby
Utopia, utopia
My dog needs new ears
Make his eyes see forever
Make him live like me
Again and again
Fascist baby
Utopia, utopia
I'm wired to the world
That's how I know everything
I'm super brain
That's how they made me
Fascist baby
Utopia, utopia
The lyrics to Goldfrapp's song Utopia speak to a sense of disorientation and confusion, with the singer feeling like they have lost their sense of identity and purpose. The first stanza portrays a bleak, colorless world where the singer's mind feels empty and disconnected from their own sense of self. However, the second stanza seems to suggest that being with someone else - the "you" - provides some sort of salvation, even if it doesn't make logical sense. There is a feeling of being liberated from the strictures of society and its expectations - the "fascist baby" - and instead finding a utopia of sorts.
The third stanza complicates things further, with the singer suggesting that they are somehow different from other people because of their heightened awareness and knowledge. They are "wired to the world" and have a "super brain," but it's unclear whether this is a positive or negative thing. The final repetition of "Utopia, utopia" suggests that the singer is still searching for some sort of ideal world or state of mind, but that there is no clear path to get there.
Overall, the lyrics to Utopia are somewhat abstract and open to interpretation, but they seem to speak to a sense of ennui and dissociation that many people feel in modern society. The desire for escape or transformation is strong, but the means of achieving that goal remain elusive.

@@slartybartfast4213 I remember this as
I forget who I am,
again and again,
fascist baby.
Which captures an aspect of fascism, that it rewrites history and misapropriates culture.
I listened again and I heard precious. Maybe the confusion is deliberate, but I would rather this was just a dreamlike indulgence.
@alarmcaller
This chorus of this song has one of the most utterly intoxicating synth rhythms I have ever heard. Absolutely magnificent.
@THEYOGAFACE
I agree . The texture of the synth is everything

Alison goldfrapp
Is an inspiration and gives hope to those who have not made it young....she was 35 when this came out ..her debut....she's been wildly successful since....its a myth that you have to make it by 25 or you'll never make it/be left out in the cold forever......
@92RedRevolver
I'm glad she got over that too, she famously wouldn't talk about her age for a long time, possibly shame. She shouldn't be ashamed, her life has shaped this beautiful woman and her relationship with her own raw talent. I'm not saying she should be actively grateful for the shit, but yeah, don't be embarassed because you're x age and not got a record deal. What about those Fisherman Friends guys, even? They were in their sixties and seventies when they did their debut album!

@Rick-Jangle
Shouldn’t make any difference if your 25, 35, or 85! If it’s a good song, it’s a good song! There have been brilliant song writers and musicians out there,that have written great material and will never be heard of!
@curiositypiqued6573
@@Rick-Jangle exactly the BS cxxxs in music world and TBH not just the industry but society/the world at large is full of ageist scumbags....just "meh" about it ya know???😡😠
