Born to Lose
Goldie Hill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Born to lose I've lived my life in vain
Every dream has only brought me pain
All my life I've always been so blue
Born to lose and now I'm losing you
Born to lose it seems so hard to bear
How I long to always have you near
You've grown tired and now you say we're through
Born to lose and now I'm losing you

Born to lose my every hope is gone
It's so hard to face an empty dawn
You were all the happiness I knew
Born to lose and now I'm losing you
There's no use to dream of happiness
All I see is only loneliness

All my life I've always been so blue
Born to lose and now I'm losing you

Overall Meaning

Goldie Hill's Born To Lose is a heart-wrenching country ballad that speaks to the pain of living a life that always seems to end in disappointment. The opening line, "Born to lose, I've lived my life in vain," sets the tone for the entire song, which is a lament for a life that has never quite lived up to its potential. The singer feels as if every dream she's ever had has only brought her pain, and she's haunted by the feeling that she was fated to be unhappy.

As the song continues, the singer reflects on her relationship with a person she's losing. She's always been blue, and now she's losing the one bright spot in her life. The lines, "Born to lose, it seems so hard to bear, how I long to always have you near, you've grown tired and now you say we're through," speak to the sense of desperation and loss that she's feeling. She's been born to lose, and now she's losing the one thing that made her feel like things might turn out differently.

The chorus is a series of painful reminders that there's simply no escaping the pain of a life that always seems to end in heartbreak. "Born to lose, my every hope is gone," she sings, "it's so hard to face an empty dawn. You were all the happiness I knew, born to lose and now I'm losing you." The song is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity, and of the power of country music to speak directly to the heart.

Justin was a great guy. He never attempted to "ride his daddy's coattails at all". He was talentend enough in his own rights to make it on his own. Lots of folks don't know this but he did start off playing in E.T.'s band, but when Earnest thought he was ready he "kicked him out of the nest" just like he did a lot of other greats. For instance; Jack Greene, Johnny Paycheck, Willie Nelson, Cal Smith and others. They were all ever grateful to him.
