Their full-length debut, Tally Of The Yes Men, is a melding of decades of rock and pop influences with the melodic sensibilities of old Indian film music.
Siddhartha (founder, lead singer / songwriter of Goldspot) is quick to pay tribute to his early influences: "I grew up listening to whatever my parents had in their cassette decks - Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh - these were great Indian playback singers from the 1940's and 50's. The melodies were brilliant. And then one day when I was 14, I figured out that if you flipped the switch on the stereo from 'tape' to 'radio' you could hear music with English words. That's when I heard R.E.M.'s Green, and it was my first introduction to Western music."
Goldspot thrives on Siddhartha's creative chemistry with drummer and co-writer Ramy Antoun. "Sid would come to me with demos of the songs that he had recorded in his apartment, and we would finish them together." "We both have similar backgrounds," notes Siddhartha, referring to his Indian upbringing and Ramy's formative years in Egypt. "There's a lot of connection on that level," confirms Ramy.

Emily
Goldspot Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We're a pair of fourteen-year-olds holding hands in the sun
If we can be wise we'll part with the pride set our egos aside for a day
Cause recently I woke up in the middle of the night
And I had a feeling that something ain't right
See I tried to kiss you through the pillow on my right
And uh oh Emily, will you marry me again?
I wish I was the sun that kisses your face puts your freckles in place all at once
Cause recently I woke up in the middle of the night
And I had a feeling that something ain't right
See I tried to kiss you through the pillow on my right
And uh oh Emily, will you marry me again?
But love isn't easy
At times you'll go crazy
Or maybe just maybe
And uh oh Emily, will you marry me?
Uh oh Emily, will you marry me?
Uh oh Emily, will you marry me?
And uh oh Emily, will you marry me again?
So we can remember this life
As a pair of fourteen-year-olds holding hands in the sun
The song "Emily" by Goldspot is a romantic ballad that reflects on the singer's relationship with his lover Emily. The lyrics start with a nostalgic memory of their young love, where they were two fourteen-year olds holding hands in the sun. The singer contemplates their present life and reflects on the challenges that the couple faces in their relationship. He recognizes his faults and questions if the boy Emily is currently dating is truly worth loving. The chorus repeatedly asks Emily if she will marry him again, suggesting that their love has gone through ups and downs, yet he's willing to commit to her again.
The lyrics convey the theme of love's authenticity and the difficulties that come with maintaining a long-term relationship. It shows that love isn't always easy, but it's worth fighting for even when the relationship is struggling. The singer recognizes that both partners need to set their egos aside and communicate honestly for the relationship to work. The nostalgia of their younger love brings a sense of hopefulness that they can preserve the bond that began when they were young. Overall, Emily is a song that celebrates true love and the effort and devotion it requires.
