Don't Need Love
Good Golly! It's Mr. Nick! Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She don't love nobody
Nothing borrowed nothing blue
She don't love nobody
Behind those green eyes I detect
She don't love nobody
A heart no kiss could resurrect
All her life she's been told to hang on tight
There's a man who'd make her his wife
But she's not interested
In anything momma says
She throws passion to the wind
She don't love nobody
She don't give out but she don't give in
She don't love nobody
And if I could I'd make her mine
She don't love nobody
And she would never walk that line
She don't love nobody
And I would give her anything
She don't love nobody
But I don't think she's suffering
She don't love nobody
All my life I've been told to hang on tight
There's a girl who'd be my wife
But I'm not interested
In anything momma says
I want the girl who does not need
She don't love nobody
She the one my heart receives
She don't love nobody, no
She don't love nobody
She don't love nobody
In the first verse of "Don't Need Love," Good Golly! It's Mr. Nick! sings about a woman who appears to be indifferent to love. He notes that she does not love anybody and has not borrowed anything (as traditionally done at weddings) or chosen anything blue (as traditionally done to represent loyalty). He sings, "behind those green eyes I detect" that she has a heart that no kiss could resurrect. This verse suggests that the woman has been hurt or let down in the past and is now closed off to love.
The second verse describes how the woman has been told to wait for a man who will marry her, but she is not interested in what her mother says. Instead, she throws passion to the wind and refuses to love anyone. The chorus repeats that she does not love anybody and reiterates the singer's desire to be with her, despite her lack of interest in love.
The third verse changes perspective to the singer's point of view. He explains that he has also been told to find a woman to marry but is not interested in what his mother says. He wants a woman who does not need love because that is the woman his heart desires. The chorus repeats that the woman the singer desires does not love anybody.
Overall, "Don't Need Love" is a song about two people who do not follow traditional expectations of love and marriage. They are both looking for someone who does not need love and refuse to conform to societal expectations.

@Robin- 1 Yes and nobody still cares - the butthurt is all media driven propaganda - the butthurt is the masses being manipulated by the few - and people are gullible enough to buy into this BS.
Control of the masses using the media and big tech. That's what's really happening in this country today. George Orwell's prophesy has come to pass.
