@Lily Guild they are not old, they're in their 40's. Wtf? Their list of what they don't want was ridiculous. Obviously some people want less hyper pets, that's not what anyone is criticizing. They can't even be bothered to go look for a dog. That's absolutely ridiculous, especially considering that most shelters have online profiles of their adoptable pets, and they could have at least googled what breed of dog they want.

@Lily Guild Greyhounds are not hyper dogs. They actually are calm, affectionate and intelligent. They are independent thinkers , unlike many dogs, and will do what you ask out of love if they are treated kindly and with respect. They're incredible, gorgeous and those who are fortunate enough to bring one (or more) into their family will be smitten with Greyhounds for life. They're great indoors, btw. , where they have to live. They're clean, super easy to house train, gentle, and adore a soft bed. They are NOT frantic and are NOT guard dogs. (They tend to ask people in and give them anything they want !). Outdoors, however, they can play with great joy ... and run up to 45 mph... Leashes, a fenced back yard needed!

@Kathy Florcruz There are some breeds that need specific temperaments, abilities, and behaviors as working dogs, no matter if they're herding livestock, guiding the blind, doing search and rescue, searching for cadavers, hunting, detecting medical conditions, sniffing out explosives, etc. Yes, mixed dogs can be capable of performing those tasks as well, but they can be wild cards that don't often show their full hand until they're comfortable in a new home. With purebred dogs, you generally know what to expect out of them which is important when they're needed for certain tasks.

My rescue dog has the intelligence of his German shepherd parent, all the stubbornness of his bull terrier grandparent, and the quiet clinginess of his Rottweiler great-grandparent. He doesn't fit the mold of any of them, and because of his brand of stubbornness, he sometimes decides he's just not in the mood to follow direction. He'd fail as a working dog.

I am a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier and do not fit Breed Standard in that I am NOT Dog / Animal Aggressive. I'm an Owner-Trained Service Dog that knows 18 Tasks that help keep my owner out of the ER or Morgue.

As an American I have never heard that greyhounds are supposedly vicious... where does that come from? I mean I know they are used as hunting dogs sometimes, but so are Labradors. Wow, I wonder what other breed discrimination is out there.. I know here in the states it was the German Shepherd, then it was Rotweilers, then Dobermans, and now "Pit Bulls" which is loosely used by some to cover any doggo with a square head.

@Joy Pomeroy It is a thing, breeding is similar to evolution but in a much smaller scale. For example many norwegian elkhounds were very suspicous of people back in the 50's but because of breeding focused on getting them more social, aka only breeding individuals that were more open and friendly, they have become the floofiest cuddlebears and only a few lines are still suspicous. The same with foxes and minks, those breeded for farming are much less aggressive now than 20 or even 10 years ago, foxes are of course naturally more friendly by nature anyways, but still. There are many dogbreeds that are not at all the same in different countries because of how people have chosen to breed them, depending on purposes and what breeding material was available when they started breeding. Just like how many kids have similar personalities to those of their parents or grandparents/earlier relatives, dogs also inherit that the same way, both DNA and upbringing will decide how the dog will become eventually, but a dog that is badly breeded (aggressive/anxious parents) will require a lot more from their owner in order to become civilised than one that that was offspring from very calm and peoplefriendly dogs. Just look up pictures of how pugs or bullterriers looked 100 years ago and you will see how much they have changed physically just because of targeted breeding (which in those cases was for the worse imo).

Greyhounds do get bursts of energy, and if they aren't taught how to properly vent it, that can cause some problems. For former racers, they've learned to just run. The one I had as a kid wore a ring into our back lawn from her zoomies. And then she'd go inside and pass out on the couch. But overall they're brilliant dogs and one of the few dogs I'd consider appropriate for apartment complexes because they're generally so quiet and calm.

Greyhounds are often bred for racing exclusively, and that can lead to them being abused and mistreated. In an improper environment, the creatures could potentially be more hesitant to interact with humans. That in turn can cause them to be aggressive sometimes. That, or extremely skittish.

@Maximillian They wont. This is JUST for greyhound's that were racers. Normal greyhound's, and those that pass the greenhound program don't need them. Racers do due to their training. They can really hurt someone's pet, or get into a fight with a small wild animal due to being taught its okay to run down something fluffy that is also running from them. Thus programs like the green hound program exists that helps re-train them to be proper normal puppers.

I could never have someone else find a dog for me. My dogs come from shelters, where I go with absolutely no expectations or checklists. I don’t get puppies, but everyone else is fair game, even extreme seniors. You know you have found the right dog when they look you in the eyes and wag their tail, and you feel like leaving without them would be akin to abandonment. My autistic son, who didn’t like dogs all that much, found a dog that was so depressed he had quit eating and quit living. My son, who wouldn’t go near the cages and seemed really bored, had disappeared while my husband and I were looking at the large dogs. We separated to find him. It was his 19th birthday so we weren’t in a rush. My husband found him in the small dog room, in the farthest most hidden corner, sitting on the floor in front of the bottom cage. I watched my son put his hand against the cage door, and this little blond dog lick it. The shelter manager came around the corner, saw my son interacting with the dog and audibly gasped. She whispered that the dog hadn’t interacted with anyone in weeks and they didn’t think he liked people that much. We took Carson home that day. My son is 25 now and can’t sleep without his dog. There isn’t a chance in hell that Carson and my son would have met if I had someone else find a dog for him. Carson, a blonde 25 lb mutt from the shelter has brought more joy and love to my son’s life than I could have ever imagined. All of my dogs are special and have touching stories, but Carson’s story is proof that you, and only you, can find that special one.

Greyhounds are wonderful dogs! It's strange to hear someone say they are aggressive since I've never heard that one before. My grandmother had one when I was young, and she was a rescued former racer. She was the sweetest dog and loved to just be around people and lay her head on their lap. She loved children and would allow them, including myself, to lay on her and near her. She just loved being loved and giving love to her humans.

I think that couple could’ve used a small hypoallergenic dog like a Maltese. They don’t shed aren’t crazy energetic cuddly but like to run sometimes although they bark they can be trained not to. As opposed to grey hounds who need a lot of running and exercise but I’m glad they’re happy with Tito as their new furry friend.

Greyhounds don't really require tons of excercise. They are sprinters so they get small bursts of energy. We call them zoomies in my family. When they aren't doing zoomies they are curled up on the couch or in a nice sunny spot. Just because they can run crazy fast doesn't mean they like to do it all the time.

Pitbulls are sweet family dogs if they are treated right. Even rescued pitbulls can be such friendly dogs. You might need to be careful if it was trained for fighting it might go after other pitbulls it sees, but otherwise they aren’t usually aggressive towards humans. And if you can have it obedience trained, then it will be an even better dog.

@Joy Pomeroy I didn't mean that people should start using 'it' as a genderneutral pronoun for people in English necessarily, since that isn't too common yet and still isn't neutral the way it is in some other languages(obviously you should ask someone what they prefer). I just pointed out that that is a direction that might be taken in other languages, partly because it might make grammatical and logical sense (like children and animals already being called it), and because the word 'they' has mutiple meanings like: she, they, polite you et.c. which wouldn't make 'they' suited as a gender neural pronoun. Of course some languages might just come up with a new pronoun instead, but we can't know that now.

Regardless of what calling a beloved pet an "it" may or may not imply about this specific person, people need to stop using "it" to refer to anything or anyone they would use gender pronouns for otherwise. Saying that "it" is fine to use when you don't know is exactly why trans people get called "it" all the time. Whether one is well-meaning or not, it is incredibly dehumanizing and one needs to use "they/them" if they're unsure (meaning that you ask the person what their pronouns are). End of story.

My point was that in written English, 'it' is supposed to be used or at least grammatically correct to use when talking about dogs or babies, so it could be that people around her have just spoken that way (I suppose it's oldstyle, but it doesn't necessarily mean that she is a heartless human being). I don't use 'it' when talking about animals I know, but I knew someone who did and she still absolutely adored their dog and other animals, so I don't like people accusing the woman in the video when they don't really know her irl. Edit: When I mentioned that it can be used differently in different languages, I meant that that could be the case in her specific variety of English as well. The reason you feel that 'it' shouldn't be used for animals is because you are used to gendering animals, if everyone you knew said 'it' and corrected you when you gendered animals when you were a kid, you would probably have said 'it' automatically without even thinking twice now.

It comes from their training. They are trained to chaise after a small, fluffy object for their racing, where they send a fluffy object along the tracks rim for the dogs to run after. This when they are retired can at times translate to them going after small animals, like squires, or cats and small dogs, due to being trained to bolt after a fast fluffy object. That's where the 'aggression' misconception comes from. That's why they need the muzzle to help prevent any harm coming from their race training. The Green Hound program as they mentioned, is a retraining of greyhounds so they no longer have this drive, this trained behavior to bolt after anything fast moving and thus, no longer need to be muzzled.

That spinning the grey hound was doing is quite common for the racers as they're locked in kennels for most of the day. It's mind numbing with no stimulation so they start the habit of spinning. Lots of animals in captivity(mostly zoos, kennels, stalls etc) will show this behavior. It's always extremely sad to see.

the new owner's yard is way too small ... i hope they are taking him to a fenced-in place where he can chase a lure like that Lure Course thing some Kennel Clubs use to have dogs earn a Lure Course Title .. just to fulfill his breed instinct and desire to run and chase something.

Aw man, here I go ranting again.
If ya need a vet to hold your hand through getting a dog, I don't think that's being ready for a dog. Maybe if someone had some kinda situation where they suddenly had to take on an animal and were panicking like "OH JEEZ WHAT DO I DO-" I can understand that a lot more, because, heck, when ya get a doggo or cat it's good to have the vet give 'em a first checkup anyway. Sure, it's also fine to get behavioral information from vets too, because the health of an animal and their behavior can be pretty hand-in-hand.
For crying out loud though... a vet is a MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. Folks gotta have some initiative. It's better for everyone. It's part of the EXPERIENCE.
Whatever happened to that personal moment of going to meet an animal by yourself, or accompanied by just family, and then there's like a CLICK...? Dogs and cats (and quite a few other animals) often like to pick their people... and it's like a feeling of reassurance, which for anxiety-messes like me who struggle with even small decisions... it's something that can't be replaced. Sacrificing that, just to not spend a little basic effort, is ridiculous.
There are SO many greyhounds without homes though... I can only hope that they will in fact actually be willing and able to care for the dog.

Komodo dragons are also venomous...they discovered they have venom glands in 2009 & that's what brings down their prey not bacteria as was previously believed.

People underestimate zoos quite often. Their not all about entertaining people and giving us a show. Their great for giving people a personal sentiment towards animals. Its one thing to hear about a species of animals that needs help, but its another to see the endangered animal in person.

I can’t believe that I was able to guess it was a Komodo dragon before he said something but at first I was thinking “that’s a small enclosure for such a large animal” then I saw the box and was like “yeah for sure that’s not a Komodo” and then he said it was and I was like “whatttttt they must be babies”

different sort vets, animal husbander or such have different techniques, different ways, and different methods in dealing to help their animals

Debudding calves is a very common practice; it is safely done somewhere between birth and 3 weeks of age. The caustic paste destroys the horn-producing cells. I would bet the buffalo in this video was debudded with a caustic agent too late in life.

Australia used to be home to even larger lizards then komodos. They were called Megalania and could be over 6 meters long, they would prey on the other megafauna of the time.

Also I’m sure many people got this right, lol when the Australian Reptiles Park said they have a new arrivals, I guessed Komodo dragons 🐉 and I was right! Lol! This make me want to visit Australia 🇦🇺 which I hope so someday! 😊 ♥️ Also when Chris said “get a ice cream” I was like huh? Took me awhile till I figured it out! Lol! 🤣

Is there anything Chris can't fix? The man is the McGyver of the veterinary world! A seriously good vet who is dare I say - very easy on the eyes LOL! Lisa is amazing when it comes to pairing humans with their animal of choice. And Tim is like a big kid with his Kimodo dragons. And the chocolate on his face is really showing he's just like a big kid! I love this series, and learn something every episode. Thanks guys for educating us in animal health!

I had no idea greyhounds have been considered dangerous or aggressively inclined. All I thought about them was that they're a rare gem of a breed, so I'm glad our sweet muzzled boy got adopted by the parents he had his heart set on.

A few years ago I wanted to adopt a dog from Spania from a program we had here in Norway at the time. My only criteria was that I wanted a low, or medium energy dog, who was ok with cats and other dogs, and could walk calmly on walks.

We were recommended a sighthound mix who we were told needed only about 20 minutes walks or more. She was a beautiful dog, very calm and aloof, as sighthounds often are. After we corrected some underlying medical issues she had, she was more and more energic. we couldn't get her to play, nor get her to mentally stimulate herself when she was bored. we tried toys, training, playing with other dogs... But nothing worked. the only thing that stopped her from self harming herself with licking was walks, and running.

In the end, I ended up walking all from 2, to 4 hours with her every day, got her running on a leash every day, just to tire her out both physically and mentally. I ended up developing arthritis because of it, and couldn't walk or bend down anymore. eventually, I had to give her back, and she got another home that was best suited for her. I really miss her :(

But, long story short. Sighthounds need A LOT of mental stimuli, and are very sensitive dogs. They need to sprint at least once a day, for about 15-20 minutes to be fully happy.

I loved seeing how much Geoff/Jeff cared about Penny and her well being!!!!!!!!! Well all of the humans, but Penny isn't a "pet" that can be cuddled/snuggled or have in the yard or house like most household pets, But it was obvious he cares for her and likely all of them as much as if she was a house pet, or on that same level!!!!!

I was shouting whippet at the screen for the dog so when it was Greyhound I was happy as the two breeds are almost identical just different sizes. Sight hounds are an awesome breed in general. The only thing you have to watch is thier prey drive. It's less about it being vicious and more about them running I into the road and getting hurt chasing a squirrels or mouse. Or if you kid has a hamster they will go after it. They will not to well with the fence less type system either. Thier prey drive is primal so they will just push through the pain of the shock collar to chase a rabbit in the distance.
I have owned a whippet mix for years and love him to death and will likely get another or a Greyhound in the future.

was really surprised to hear that greyhounds were seen as aggressive. here in america i have never heard that before, but i can see how people might think that since they are trained to chase. just have a muzzle handy if you plan on letting them off the lead in a place with small animals and you will be fine. my neighbor worked for greyhound rescue and when i was like 12-15 i would take care of her three dogs every day while she was as work. they were super sweet, gentle and very quiet. they were really great with little kids too. they might chew on something if they are cooped up for too long without stimulation and they do like to chase things, but then that can be said for just about any dog. the only real difference is they have the speed to catch it.
