Stella By Starlight
Gordon Jenkins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The song a robin sings
Through years of endless springs
The murmur of a brook at eventide
That ripples by a nook where two lovers hide
A great symphonic theme
That's Stella by starlight
And not a dream
My heart and I agree
She's everything on earth to me

A great symphonic theme
That's Stella by starlight
And not a dream

My heart and I agree
She's everything on earth to me

Thank you for posting this. Must try to get the record. Will be in CD now but no matter. I so wish I was alive at the time to have seen Dick Haymes sing live. Ah well. I was born in the wrong part of the century and the wrong country. So, am very thankful we still have his recordings. What a gift his talent is to all of us.

Pure velvet voice. Precise orchestration, strict tempo foxtrot timing. PERFECTION.

Yes, this is the classic performance. I have this very LP and played it last week...still in great condition like this one...must be 65 years old...

The best version by far, the only other that comes close is by Sinatra, and Haymes was a much better singer.

I agree with that. I don’t think Dick Haymes was too nice to Rita Hayworth but
yes he could sing.
