La Mer
Gordon Langford his Piano and Orchestra Lyrics

Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailing
Somewhere beyond the sea
She's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
It's far beyond a star
It's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet I know we'll meet
Beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing
Together we'll be just you and me
Beyond the sea
The song "La Mer" by Charles Trenet has been covered by many artists, and Gordon Langford's version adds a lush orchestral arrangement to the classic tune. The lyrics speak of a lover who waits for the singer beyond the sea, watching the ships that sail by. The singer expresses a desire to fly to his lover's arms, and is confident that his heart will lead him there soon. The lovers will meet beyond the shore, where they'll kiss and be happy together beyond the sea.
The song's lyrics are simple yet powerful, conveying a longing for a distant love and a hope that they will be reunited. The imagery of golden sands and sailing ships adds to the romantic and dreamlike quality of the song. The final lines of the song, "Together we'll be just you and me/Beyond the sea," leave the listener with a sense of optimism and the promise of a happy ending.

This is the best version of this song that I know. Very curiously, after it was originally uploaded it very soon after was blocked to me, along with other Victor Young selections, but that has since been resolved (for all of those). This setting for me is very special in the same sense that George Melachrino's version of "Autumn Leaves" stands out. Once the situation with this presentation had stabilized, I managed to share this and a number of other Victor Young selections with you. I'm glad it seems to have borne fruit, except that this video is totally static; I would have loved to have seen something with various scenes and images. William
