From the "Gorillaz: Rise of the Ogre" book:
"An homage to Brian Wilson’s genius for vocal arrangement, ‘Don’t Get Lost…’ is a gleaming confection of choir, piano, and glockenspiel. If sunshine had a sound, this’d be it; displaying a warm-hearted recreation of the Beach Boy’s signature layered choral sound."
Don't Get Lost in Heaven
Gorillaz Lyrics

I drove to the mountain and holding the ground
There was crack on the corner and someone dead
And fire coming out of the monkey's head
Don't get lost in heaven, eh
They got locks on the gate, hey
Don't go over the edge, eh
Put me in a cab to suburbia
I just took a line but I wasn't with you
There was more of it there, when I got back home
But you had left me, you don't know my soul
You're a whole bad mistake, yeah, you're a whole one
Don't get lost in heaven, eh
They got locks on the gate, hey
Don't go over the edge, eh
You'll make a big mistake, hey (big mistake)
Aah
You'll make a big mistake
Aah
You'll make a big mistake
Aah
You'll make a big mistake
Aah
The lyrics of Gorillaz's Don't Get Lost in Heaven describe the experience of being lost both physically and emotionally. The first verse portrays a person who arrived in the countryside, driving to the mountain and witnessing drugs being sold on the streets, as well as someone who had passed out or already dead, and monkey figurines emitting flames. This initial scene sets the tone of confusion and fear for the rest of the song.
In the second verse, the lyrics shift towards personal issues, hinting at possible addiction and drug abuse. The persona is sent by someone to the suburbia on a cab, where they consume drugs, presumably cocaine, without feeling much emotional connection to their partner, who had left them. The repetition of "You'll make a big mistake" at the end of each verse emphasizes the idea that making choices without clarity or awareness can lead to undesirable consequences.
The chorus serves as a warning not to let oneself be lost in heaven, a metaphor for a blissful state. This phrase is repeated along with the reminder that there are locks on the gate, preventing one from leaving or entering at will, and that going over the edge leads to a big mistake.
Overall, Don't Get Lost in Heaven offers to its listeners an examination of self-destructive behavior, addiction, and the importance of staying grounded in reality.

This song always reminds me of when me and my friend walked home from our summer jobs. We would listen to this album the whole way back home when we were super tired and almost home we would hear this song and...just be really happy. Now everytime me and my friend listen to it we get reminded of so many memories.
