Penelope
Gothica Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Fluid is the night which I plunge in,
Coloured by the sunset, enlightened by the moon.

I weave weft of dreams
Erasing them with reality,
I wait for Death
That will come from the sea.
I grow flowers watering them
With blood and I destroy them
With the look of someone who has seen
And knows too much,
They read a world in me,
In me they perceive the dream,

Roads of sea, houses of clouds,
I weave, and my thread is Death.

Overall Meaning

In Gothica's song Penelope, the lyrics describe a dark and mysterious night, colored by the beautiful sunset and moon. The singer admits to weaving dreams, only to erase them with harsh reality. They wait patiently for Death to come for them from the sea, indicating a sense of acceptance towards their fate.

The lyrics then describe a metaphorical garden where the singer grows flowers with their own blood, only to destroy them with a gaze of someone who has seen and knows too much. This can be interpreted as the singer's inner turmoil and struggle with their own thoughts and emotions. Others perceive the singer as a world, able to read their dreams and see the worlds they create. The singer then weaves their thread, ultimately indicating their role as a creator, but with the ultimate ending being Death.
