Je T'Ecris
Grégory Lemarchal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Grégory Lemarchal's song Je T'Ecris are a collection of snapshots that the singer is sharing with the person he is writing to. The song opens with descriptions of the winter streets dressed in Christmas decorations and the bittersweet taste of the season. The singer then shares memories of a little girl's wonderment under a big Christmas tree on 5th Avenue in New York City.

As the song progresses, the singer takes the listener on a journey across the world, sharing glimpses of different places and situations. He writes from a deserted landscape where a shipwreck remembers the sea, a land where houses crumble, and Venetian lovers who wake up to the sound of old church bells. The song also explores the darker side of human existence, including war-torn trenches, hunger-stricken children, and a continent where thousands of people die.

Despite the multitude of experiences shared, the singer's message is ultimately one of love and a dream of having loved the person he is writing to. The lyrics suggest that the singer finds beauty in the vast experiences of human existence, both the light and dark sides of it, while holding on to the hope and power of love.
