I Need A Man
Grace Jones Lyrics

Someone telephone me
It's gettin' hard to pass my time
Take me out'a dinin'
Watch me while I'm smilin'
Baby, it's a waste of time
I need a man, to make my dreams come true
Say that you will find him
Creepin' up behind him
Rulin' round' the town all day
Well, I'm underestimated
Hardly underrated
Can't there be another way?
I need a man, perhaps a man like you
I need a man, to make my dreams
And I need a man
And then I won't be feelin' lonely
Knowin' I'm the only one
He'll understand
All that I'm feelin' deep inside me
Knowin' that at last he's come
Oh well, oh well
Well, gettin' tired of lookin'
Wastin' all my cookin'
Endin' in a dreadful row
Can somebody tell me
Say to me, or spell me
Why I'm feelin' lonely, wow (ow)
I need a man, perhaps a man like you
I need a man to make my dreams
And I need a man
And then at night I won't be lonely
Knowin' I'm the only one
He'll understand
All, that I'm feelin' deep inside me
Knowin' that at last he's come
Maybe that I'm dreamin'
Can't say that I've seen him
Somehow, I've just got to find
Someone understandin'
Long enough to hand him
All that I've built up inside, the man
I need a man (I need a man like you, to make my dreams come true)
(I need a man like you, to make my dreams come true)
(I need a man like you, to make my dreams come true)
I need a man (I need a man like you, to make my dreams come true)
I need a man (I need a man like you, to make my dreams come true)
Perhaps that man is you
The lyrics to Grace Jones's song "I Need A Man" speak of the singer's loneliness and desire for meaningful connection. The song begins with Jones expressing her need for someone to call her and take her out to dinner, as she finds it difficult to pass the time alone. Throughout the song, she laments her status as an underrated and underestimated individual, and urges someone to help her find the man of her dreams.
Jones's lyrics are straightforward, but they convey a deep sense of longing and a desire for fulfillment. She sings about the importance of finding someone who will understand her and all that she feels deep inside. The repetition of the phrase "I need a man" emphasizes the urgent nature of her desire for companionship and love. Jones's voice is strong and passionate, and the driving beat of the music underscores her yearning.
In all, "I Need A Man" is a powerful expression of the human need for connection and intimacy. Jones's lyrics speak to anyone who has ever felt alone and misunderstood, and the song's upbeat tempo provides a sense of hope in the face of this loneliness.

I met her in Provincetown, summer of 1978. I was 16 at the time and she invited me to her show the following night. She put me on the VIP guest list, invited me backstage and offered me champagne (I looked 20 and the drinking age was 18). Both evenings will forever be among my favorite memories. Grace is a goddess!

I was lucky enough to meet her in Ft. Lauderdale where she was performing when she first started singing; I lived in Houston but was visiting Florida. Later, she came to Houston several times and I was there at every show. Loved her and the 70's.
