I'll Remember April
Grace Kelly Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This lovely day will lengthen into evening
We'll sigh goodbye to all we ever had
Alone where we have walked together
I'll remember April and be glad

I'll be content you loved me once in April
Your lips were warm and love and spring were new
I'm not afraid of autumn and her sorrow
For I'll remember April and you

The fire will dwindle into glowing ashes
For flames live such a little while

I won't forget but I won't be lonely
I'll remember April and smile

Overall Meaning

The song 'I'll Remember April' by Grace Kelly is a romantic, bittersweet song about reminiscence and longing for a past love. The first verse describes the passage of time as evening approaches on a lovely day, and the impending end of a relationship. The singer acknowledges the pain of saying goodbye but finds solace in the memories of the time they spent together, walking hand in hand. The singer acknowledges that the memory of the relationship, poignant as it is, is something to be cherished and not forgotten.

In the second verse, the singer reflects on the joy of spring and new love in April, recalling the warmth of their partner's lips, and how their feelings for each other were fresh and new. Whilst acknowledging the grief that comes with the approaching autumn, the singer knows that they will always treasure their memories, and the love they shared during that fleeting time.

The final verse sees the fire which once burned so brightly, slowly dwindle and fade. However, the singer is not afraid of solitude as they know that they will always have memories of April, and these bittersweet memories are something to be embraced and cherished, forever causing them to smile.

Gotta say, this brought tears to my eyes seeing and hearing this young girl standing beside Phil Woods and just simply... cooking! And playing her young heart out. And with such joy. And deepest compliments to Phil Woods for what was so obviously his heartfelt and most generous admiration and regard for this young and talented musician beside him. A most beautiful moment captured and one for which I'll remain ever thankful.

I invited grace to sit in with my band on Thursday night in Boston (May 3rd) and she really knocked us out! She has her own sound and style and is a fully realised Jazz artist (saxophonist and singer) at 14! What a joy!

When you have it .... you have it. Grace Kelly has it.

Oh, this is wonderful! I once dragged my young niece to a jazz performance and she got a kick out of everyone in the audience showing their approval with lots of "yeahs!" Well, I say "yeah" to this young saxophonist! Groove on, Grace!

David Scott

loved the bestowing of the hat on the youngster ....symbolic of passing the baton on to the next generation of sax players

Wow! I was expecting her to be just so-so, but just hyped up due to her age. She's actually incredibly talented...especially at her age. I had to pull the clip back at around 3:38 just to re-listen to her creative lines on these changes. Very cool! Keep it up Grace!

Amen. You know, there is something to say about discipline here. At age 14 I was still playing video games everyday of my life, and now I'm working as hard as possible to even reach this level at 23. She's 14, give her constructive criticism, not tear her apart.

She was amazing. I loved the licks she put on it!

Thanks for this one;) It brought tears to my eyes. The future of our music is in good hands. Impressive.

Wow, to play like that at that age - right beside a giant of jazz - is impressive. We'll be watching for her!
