Kids
Grace Mitchell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Then you would have missed the early warning
Now we pray for our mistakes
Thrown right in our face, is no one sorry?
Ooh, ooh, Iā²ve been so blind
Ooh, ooh, the kids ain't all right
Iā²ve been drinking my delusions down
Ooh, ooh, I've been so blind
Ooh, ooh, the kids ain't all right
The kids ainā²t all right
Now you get what you made
Land of the queer and patriotic
Playing it safe
You want me to finish what you started
Ooh, ooh, Iā²ve been so blind
Ooh, ooh, the kids ain't all right
Why is everything so stupid now?
Iā²ve been drinking my delusions down
Ooh, ooh, I've been so blind
Ooh, ooh, the kids ainā²t all right
The kids ain't all right
The kids ainā²t all right
The kids ain't all right
Kids ain't all right
The kids ainā²t all right
The lyrics to Grace Mitchell's song "Kids" are quite complex and open to interpretation, but ultimately they seem to be a commentary on the state of society and the pressures that young people face. The first verse seems to be pointing out that many warning signs were missed or ignored, and now mistakes are being made that have serious consequences. The line "thrown right in our face, is no one sorry?" suggests a sense of frustration with the lack of accountability or remorse for these mistakes.
The chorus repeats the line "the kids ain't all right" multiple times, indicating that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. The singer seems to feel like they have been blind to the issues at hand and are now seeing things more clearly. The line "why is everything so stupid now?" could be a reflection of the overwhelming feeling of being bombarded with information and not knowing what to believe or trust.
The second verse touches on themes of identity and patriotism. The line "land of the queer and patriotic" suggests that these two things are often at odds with one another, which can create tension and confusion for young people. The lines "playing it safe, you want me to finish what you started" could be interpreted as a call to action, urging listeners to take responsibility for their own lives and not rely on others to lead the way.
Overall, the song seems to be a reflection of a young person's experience in modern society, and the challenges and pressures that come with it.

Love this song, heard it on Spotify, love it when it actually suggest me relevant music, damn this song kicks ass. Love how verse 1 to verse 2 it shifts from an almost Nirvana hard grunge instrumentation to an almost industrial NIN kind of Vibe.
