You're a dead end street
But won't you stay for a while?
I wish that you'd never leave
I know I know better
You're no guarantee
But if you asked me to run away
I'd go easily
I almost lost it
I'll heal eventually
But faster if you're next to me
Next to me
I'm codependent
But trying hard not to be
I'm better when you're next to me
I'm a shameless caller
You're a full machine
But won't you answer tonight
And say something nice to me
And you don't have to mean it
You can lie to me
But if you asked me to run away
I'd go easily
I almost lost it
I'll heal eventually
But faster if you're next to me
Next to me
I'm codependent
But trying hard not to be
I'm better when you're next to me, next to me
But do you think we could talk?
'Cause I've been trying to tell you
How you're the one that I turn tom, mmm
But I should probably stop
Instead of forcing a breakthrough
It's just that I'll always choose you
I'm a forest fire
You're the kerosene
I had a life here before you
But now it's burning
I know I know better and
You're ignoring me
Still, if you asked me to run away
I'd go easily
I almost lost it
I'll heal eventually
But faster if you're next to me
Next to me
I'm codependent
But I'm trying hard not to be
I'm better when you're next to me, next to me
Do you think we could talk?
'Cause I've been trying to tell you
How you're the one that I turn to (turn to)
But I should probably stop
Instead of forcing a breakthrough
It's just that I'll always choose you
"Full Machine" by Gracie Abrams is a poignant and powerful ballad about the complexity of relationships and the struggles of attachment and detachment. Through her beautiful and emotive vocals, Gracie paints a picture of two individuals who are seemingly incompatible but still hold onto a deep desire for one another. The chorus of the song highlights this paradoxical relationship, where the singer describes herself as a "rollercoaster" and the other person as a "dead end street," but still wishes for them to stay with her for a while. The chorus continues with the singer expressing her codependency, admitting that she is better when the other person is "next to me." Despite her knowledge that the other person is not a guarantee and could leave her at any moment, she would still run away with them easily if they asked her to.
The song takes on a more introspective tone in the bridge, where the singer contemplates the possibility of seeking closure through honest communication. She wants to talk to the other person and express her feelings, but she holds back for fear of forcing a situation that may not be right. The lyrics "it's just that I'll always choose you" highlight her internal conflict of wanting to move on but still feeling deeply connected to the other person.
Overall, "Full Machine" is a beautiful and relatable song that explores the complexities of love and the struggles of letting go of someone we care about deeply.
