Gracious is a UK Progressive Rock group formed in 1968 who also did their 1… Read Full Bio ↴Gracious is a UK Progressive Rock group formed in 1968 who also did their 1st tour with The Who and the band recorded 2 releases, Gracious! in 1970 and This is… Gracious!! in 1972 on legendary vertigo record label and then in 1996 Tim Wheatley on Bass, Guitars, Vocals and Robert Lipson on percussion reformed and recorded the album echoes with the addition of Sev Lewkowicz on guitars and keyboards. The band have been drawn from many influences from classical to jazz which can be heard most notably on their 1970 album Gracious!

Say Goodbye to Love lyrics written by Kieth Ireland (my father in law).

He used to sing with the band for a period in the early days when touring Germany then became part of the band as a member of the crew.

Have just played this to him as he hasn’t heard this for over 30 years!

I can't even begin to sing along with this one, actually...it's such a tearjerker and I choke up trying to do so...especially knowing in the back of my mind that the concept theme of this LP is life on Earth ending while those up there are orbiting in a space craft. Say goodbye to love/say goodbye to happiness...just drops me right down to my knees.

And that aforementioned Mellotron blast at the end...what inspired Kitcat to do this? I know he was a huge King Crimson fan, and I of course see that also...but he must have also came across Moody Blues' "Have You Heard" on their album Threshold Of A Dream.

David Ferman I consider myself a big fan of Rock with all it's variances in styles ie Blues, Funk, Jazz, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk, Thrash, AOR, Soft Rock, some New Wave, bit of Rockabilly and just about any and every style that Rock is adapted into yet there is one style that I have a a little trouble getting which is Prog. For so many years I have tried to get into it but there is just something about the band's music that hinders my enjoyment. Now that isn't to say that I have not made some headway. And that headway is known as a band called Gracious. These 2 albums are done so well I can't explain it. Yet ! But I can say this much 2 things that come to mind are one the music's subject matter and the singers voive

Classy prog with all the right moves and lots of organ and mellotron . Another obscure yet memorable album from a sadly neglected band . So many creative and original bands around in the early 70's . Gracious were one of so many . Glad l was there at the time .

Awesome stuff! If I had to reference bands, sounds like a cross between Egg & King Crimson to these ears. Even the hardest tripping hippie, tho, must have had a difficult time 'saying goodbye to love' & then having to prepare to 'meet his maker'!

Thanks, i´ve missed not having this LP for a long while, so it´s good to hear it here.
A correction, @ 28:39 song 3. should be "What´s come to be", that was originally planned as part 3 of Super Nova in between "...Sun" and "Say Goodbye..." but got relocated to side 2. "...windy day" was not on the album but released as a single.

Thank You! I listened to all the songs on this album, because I wanted to listen to Gracious's song 'Once on a Windy Day' that I had forgotten for a while.
Perhaps, 1993 USA, japan version's "This is ... Gracious !!" track '3. Once on a Windy Day' seems to be a mistaken track name. I think it's 'What's Come To Be'.

I think [2004 British remaster "Gracious!" Bonus track's '08. Once on a Windy Day'] and ['3. 'Once on the Windy Day'] is a different song.

US ver, 1993 "This Is...Gracious!!" Notes "This also contains "Once In A Windy Day" - omitted from the original LP due to time constraints. " I think this article is also incorrect.
