Bells Books and Candles
Graeme Revell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The reflecting of light and the traces of dust
The heart of it
One movement in response to the holler
All of it

Mouthing the word and smile
Thou unveil
Between the questions and the answers
Power (????)

In harmony, love and being itself

In truth
Power (????)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Graeme Revell's song Bells Books and Candles appear to be an introspective exploration of life and existence. The first line, "The reflecting of light and the traces of dust," seems to reference the beauty in the details of the world around us, the small things that we often overlook. The second line, "The heart of it," suggests that this attention to detail is at the core of our existence, that we must look closely to truly understand the world and our place in it.

The third line, "One movement in response to the holler," hints at the idea that we are all connected, that we all react to the larger forces at work in the world around us. The fourth line, "All of it," reinforces this idea and perhaps suggests that we must be mindful of our responses, even to the smallest things, as they all contribute to the greater whole.

The following lines, "Mouthing the word and smile / Thou unveil / Between the questions and the answers / Power (????)," are a bit more cryptic but continue with the theme of introspection. Here, the idea of communication is explored, with emphasis on the power in what is said versus what is left unsaid. The final lines, "In harmony, love and being itself / In truth / Power (????)" seem to be a conclusion, that when we exist and act in a state of harmony and love, we embody truth and power.

Fliting of light in the desert dust
Thou art there
One movement in response to another
Thou art there
Not in the word, but in the smile
Thou art there
Between the question and the answer
Thou art there
In harmony, and love, and being itself, and truth
Thou art there

The female chant here is a Sanskrit mantra for honouring the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi. The words are choppy in Greame's song, but I think the mantra goes like this:

"Prasanna Vadanaam. Saubhaagyadaam Bhaagyadaam.
Hastabhyam Abhayaprada. Maniganai Naa Naavidhai Bhushanam".

Which, in English, translates to:
“Let me meditate on the greatest Goddess, Who is the wife of Lord Vishnu, Give me higher intellect, And let Goddess give me abundance and prosperity.”

As deep as I dug, I could not identify the singer. But she is one of hundreds, may e thousands, of voices featured on Spectrasonics' Legacy voice software. There are samples on their site.

Hypnotic. I love it when music transcends you to somewhere the world cannot take you to.

is a SANSKRIT Chant honoring 'Lakshmi', the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity.. The actual mantra is as follows: "Prasanna Vadanaam. Saubhaagyadaam Bhaagyadaam. Hastaabhyaam Abhayapradaam. Maniganai naa naavidhai Bhuushhitaam".

@ValeriyaVikhrova

Do you know who sings this manta?

@ishikawaml

@@user-zz4ny8bf8k I do not. You could try looking up the score on the original movie, by law, they have to give it credit.

@ValeriyaVikhrova

@Timothy Black I own it on Amazon, they don't even credit the "Bells, Books and candles," this mantra is also used by Engima, a song called "The child in us" but still nobody is crediting the singer of the mantra. I want to know who it is T.T

@Witchy-Daze

Yes it annoys me they wont credit the singer!
