For Me
Grammatrain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Remember me, think you know my name
I never knew how to play your game.
And could you, could you cry, for me yeah
And bleed your eyes my soul to keep

I'd love to know your reasons
You keep your eyes away from me
a world of peace, where you pretend to live
I'll stay away so you don't have to think

and could you, could you cry for me yeah
And bleed your eyes, my soul to keep
I'd love to know your reasons
You keep your eyes away from me

could you cry for me yeah
And bleed your eyes my soul to keep, oh keep
I'd love to know your reasons

Why can't you say your reasons
You keep your eyes away from me.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Grammatrain's song For Me depict the struggle of a person striving for acceptance and understanding from someone who refuses to acknowledge their existence. The first two lines imply that the singer is not well known to the person they are addressing, and they don't know how to fit into the social customs demanded of them. The refrain of "could you cry, for me, yeah / and bleed your eyes, my soul to keep" implies a desperate plea for emotional connection, suggesting that the singer wants to be heard and understood, even if it requires pain.

The line "I'll stay away so you don't have to think" implies that the person being addressed is willfully ignoring the singer, either out of spite or a general lack of concern. The singer is willing to retreat even further into their own world of isolation to spare the other person the trouble of acknowledging them. The lyrics use the phrase "I'd love to know your reasons" twice, suggesting that the singer is confused and hurt by the rejection they are experiencing, and is searching for insight into why they are being ignored.

Overall, the song suggests a longing for acceptance and understanding, combined with a sense of isolation and rejection. The lyrics are introspective and emotional, reflecting the pain of being excluded and ignored by others.
