En el año de 1969, el cantante Nelson MArtinez entra a la agrupacion de Gran Coquivacoa, y se convierte en vocalista principal en los años de 1960 a 1970, con su tamboreros y sus gaitones, como por ejemplo El gran Gaitón (1969), Tamborera Numero 7 (1977), Tamborera Numero 9 (1979, Los Vasallos, La Traidora, Gaita a Tambora, y muchos otros más.
